DENTON ( UNT ), Texas -- For the second consecutive year, University of North Texas Printing and Distribution Solutions won Best of Show at the In-Print Competition, sponsored by In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association and In-Plant Graphics magazine. The In-Print Competition is the only printing contest exclusively for in-house printers.
UNT won Best of Show in the non-offset category for the "Emerald Ball Goes Gatsby" invitation, produced for the Office of Advancement. Approximately 2,000 of these invitations were mailed to guests announcing the 2011 Emerald Ball, an annual fundraising event to support scholarships for the Emerald Eagle Scholars Program. Judges unanimously chose UNT's piece for its die cuts, gatefold, exact crossovers, vibrant colors and UV coating on both sides. The materials were printed using a HP Indigo 5500 digital press.
UNT also won a gold award for the invitation and five gold awards for other projects, including a brochure for the Division of Institutional Equity and Diversity, a booklet about research clusters for the Office of Research and Development, a newsletter for UNT-International, the 2010 holiday card for the UNT President's Office, and a brochure for the UNT Honors College. The winning materials were produced by a 25-member staff led by Jimmy Friend, director of UNT Printing and Distribution Solutions.
"This is a great honor to receive the Best of Show award in consecutive years," said Friend. "It was an overall team effort with several different individuals contributing. I just can't say enough about the staff and their efforts on this project."
Last year, UNT Printing and Distribution Solutions earned Best of Show for the College of Business New Building Campaign and 10 awards, seven of which were gold awards. Since 2004, UNT has received 44 awards in this competition, including 33 gold awards.
