Independent Survey Crowns WhatTheyThink as #1 Source for Printers

Press release from the issuing company

Lexington, Kentucky USA -- WhatTheyThink today announced that independent research firm Research USA reached out to 1,000 printing companies (NAPL members) to compare the web sites of WhatTheyThink, American Printer and Printing Impressions. Research USA is a highly respected survey firm used by publishing companies around the country, including Printing Impressions. With nearly a 30% response rate, WhatTheyThink, outranked Printing Impressions (piworld.com) by a factor of 4 and AmericanPrinter.com by a factor of 5. Research USA indicates results are projectable within a range of +/- 5.8%, with 95% confidence.

“In an industry that is dynamically evolving,” said Eric Vessels, WhatTheyThink’s President, “executives need access to the most timely, informative and accurate information about industry trends, suppliers, competitors, technology and more. More than three-quarters of respondents reported a title of CEO/COO/President/Owner, and it is clear that WhatTheyThink is meeting the needs of these savvy executives better than the competition.”

Respondents represented printing companies of all sizes, and 94% of respondents reported having at least two production technologies in place, including more than 80% using digital and/or sheetfed offset. Nearly all of those responding (98.2%) are involved in their companies’ purchasing process, with 85.2% approving purchases. While 47.9% of respondents report visiting WhatTheyThink, 27.6% regularly visit the site.

WhatTheyThink was also described by respondents as the one web site that:

  • Is the must “visit and read”
  • Contains the most interesting articles
  • Is, in our opinion, the overall number one industry web site

“We are proud of the fact that WhatTheyThink was chosen as the overall number one website by more than half of respondents to this survey,” added Vessels. “It is also important to our sponsors that WhatTheyThink ranked number one as the site where visitors are most likely to see and read advertisements.” The research indicates that three-quarters of respondents took one or more actions after seeing and reading an advertisement on any of the sites surveyed. “While this statistic is not limited to WhatTheyThink,” said Vessels, “it is clear evidence that industry executives look to web sites such as WhatTheyThink when planning a purchase or acquisition. With WhatTheyThink ranked number one in almost every category, we believe these executives depend on us more than they do on the competition to provide them access to the right information at the right time as they pursue these important business decisions.”
