Quad/Graphics Appoints Tom Frankowski Senior Vice President of Manufacturing
Press release from the issuing company
February 2, 2004 -- Quad/Graphics has named Thomas J. Frankowski to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Manufacturing. In this role, Mr. Frankowski will direct print production across all divisions and plants, corporate-wide, to further advance the company's tightly integrated manufacturing platform.
"Quad/Graphics is unrivaled in the printing industry as far as seamless integration of divisions and facilities," said Thomas A. Quadracci, Quad/Graphics President & CEO. "By pursuing growth through greenfield expansion, versus acquisition, we have created a business that operates as one continuously linked operation, consistent in technology and our approach to service. As Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, Tom will build on this core strength for the long-term benefit of our clients."
A 24-year veteran of Quad/Graphics, Mr. Frankowski has focused his entire career on developing the company's Imaging operations, most recently serving as Vice President of Imaging Operations. In his new role, he will continue to oversee Imaging operations, but also provide strategic direction to the Press, Finishing and Distribution divisions in coordination with each division's vice president.
"I look forward to fulfilling the duties of my new, expanded role," Mr. Frankowski said. "As Quad/Graphics continues with programs that target cycle time reduction and quality enhancement, I will coordinate process improvements across all our divisions and manufacturing facilities. Our clients will benefit from best practices, which will bring them new opportunities to save time and, most importantly, generate revenue."
Mr. Frankowski joined Quad/Graphics in 1979 and has since built Quad/Imaging into one of the industry's premier prepress providers. In the last 10 years alone, Mr. Frankowski has overseen a 130 percent increase in Quad/Imaging sales by successfully pairing high-tech, digital-based capabilities with high-touch, personalized customer service. He is credited with engineering Quad/Graphics' strategic entrance into the digital era in the 1990s. Under his leadership, Quad/Graphics pioneered direct digital cylinder engraving for live production in 1992, followed by computer-to-plate digital imaging for live production in 1994. In 1997, Mr. Frankowski catapulted the company to another industry first, overseeing Quad/Graphics' all-digital production of the entire March 3, 1997, edition of Newsweek (including both editorial and advertising pages). Mr. Frankowski was named a company manager in July 1984, advanced to director of Imaging Operations in July 1993, and became Vice President of Imaging Operations in December 1993.
As Mr. Frankowski transitions into his new role as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, he will rely on the expertise of two long-time managers – James Mercier and Mark Yanny – to advance Quad/Imaging's position in the marketplace.
Jim Mercier will serve as Director of Digital Imaging, focusing his efforts on the daily manufacturing operations of the Quad/Imaging network, including but not limited to improving product quality and customer service, and applying new technology. He has worked for Quad/Graphics in a variety of Imaging capacities since 1982, including plateroom management and operations management.
Mark Yanny will serve as Director of Gravure Imaging, overseeing day-to-day Imaging operations at Quad/Graphics' gravure and web offset facilities in Lomira, Wis.; Martinsburg, W.Va.; and Oklahoma City, Okla. Starting in the pressroom in 1976, Mr. Yanny moved into Imaging early in his career, working at one time or another as a color service representative and operations manager.
