MAN Roland CIM Classroom demystifies Computer Integrated Manufacturing

McCormick Place, Chicago — MAN Roland’s CIM Classroom will give showgoers the opportunity to attend a hands-on workshop and learn how they can implement the advantages of Computer Integrated Manufacturing into their workflows. Based on the ongoing “CIM in Print” seminars that MAN Roland conducts throughout out North America with Creo and Printcafe, the CIM Classroom will present experts from the three companies in a special area equipped with networked workstations. Participants will be able to use the machines to implement the procedures being taught. Creo will present an overview of its Networked Graphic Production (NGP) program. Developed and conducted by the CTP-leader, the initiative keys on the creation and implementation of workflow solutions that streamline the printing process from prepress, to pressroom, on through to finishing & distribution. The open, modular solutions feature strategic partnerships between Creo and other manufacturers of products and services for the graphic arts industry. By combining advanced technologies into a Networked Graphic Production environment, printers and their clients can take full advantage of CIM’s quality and productivity benefits. Printcafe will examine the role of an integrated management system in a CIM environment. The presentation will demonstrate the working JDF connection between Printcafe’s Hagen management information system and MAN Roland’s Advanced PECOM press operating and automation system. In its presentation, MAN Roland will key on how PECOM p brings the advantages of CIM to the pressroom. Emphasis will be placed on the Advanced PECOM modules JobPilot and PressMonitor, which have received an InterTech Award. Using the classroom’s networked workstations, participants will be able to conduct off-press makereadies of their own with JobPilot. They will also use PressMonitor to experience the variety of ways that the PECOM module can be used to analyze press, press crew, consumables performance, while documenting the details of every print run. “The graphic arts may be one of the last major industries to learn about the advantages of Computer Integrated Manufacturing, but it is now in a position to implement CIM benefits quite rapidly,” says Christian Cerfontaine, Director of Marketing for MAN Roland Inc. “Printers who attend this hands-on workshop at Graph Expo will discover how CIM can put a competitive edge on their workflows and help them win new business.” Undoubtedly many manufacturers will be touting the launch of their CIM-related products at Graph Expo. MAN Roland’s CIM Classroom goes them one better, actually training visitors in the use of CIM in the pressroom. Creo’s and Printcafe’s participation in the workshops brings the prepress and MIS dimensions of CIM to the program, providing insights from two of the leaders in the field. MAN Roland’s CIM expertise dates back to Drupa 90 and the introduction of the PECOM system, which makes Computer Integrated Manufacturing a reality in the pressroom.
