Southwest Offset Printing chooses Muller Martini's SLS3000 Series Inserting Line System

Press release from the issuing company

Southwest Offset Printing had some critical decisions to make as it equipped its new facility in San Jose.  As one of California's largest privately owned printers, Southwest Offset employs 550 people, each with a relentless dedication to 100% on time delivery for a wide range of daily, weekly and monthly publications, catalogs and brochures.  It's that commitment that enables them to provide unmatched skill and service to such high-profile clients as USA Today and Investors Business Daily.

And, when it came time to choose inserting equipment, Southwest Offset Printing turned to technology it can count on: Muller Martini's SLS3000 Series Inserting line.  In September, Muller will install the SLS3000 XL12-into 2 configuration in the San Jose facility.

According to Ryan McDonald, Executive Vice President of Southwest Offset Printing, "Our company currently operates three Muller inserters.  During the discovery process for our new facility, we investigated all available options, but returned to our long-time partner primarily because of equipment reliability and efficiency.  What's more, the Muller Martini SLS3000 XL's quick makeready capabilities are ideal for our quick-turn needs."

Performing at 32,000 cph, the SLS3000 XL inserting system places an increased focus on the accuracy and efficiency of the feeder.  It can process an increased number of zones and handle greater variability of products than any of its predecessors.  Other advantages include:
- High flexibility and net throughput.  Over 50 feeders can be installed to handle either light products with only a few pages or bulky weekend editions with up to 1,200 tabloid pages, allowing the inserting system to seamlessly grow as opportunities grow.
- A revolutionary Universal Feeder produces higher net throughputs and substantially reduces the number of feeder jams.
- Muller Martini's Variable Format Pocket provides greater flexibility for the processing of varying sized jackets with minimal changeover.  With a bent front wall design and fixed pocket gripper positions, the product is securely and centrally positioned between the pocket walls at all times.
- The inserter's Missed Insert Repair System detects products that are missing an insert, so fewer packages are rejected and less manpower is necessary to return products into production.
- Plug and Play technology results in quick installation, rapid changeover times and diminished maintenance downtime.

As newspaper production demands increase and advertisers require greater accuracy and accountability, mailrooms need a solution that provides the versatility and flexibility to successfully address those challenges.  And, naturally, they need that solution "now".  Said Mr. McDonald, "In our world, on-time delivery is essential.  It requires near failsafe equipment and Muller Martini provides that level of comfort for us.  And they've proved it time and time again."
