Acquisition Boosts WhatTheyThink's Circulation; Simmons to be WhatTheyThink Contributor
Lexington, Kentucky USA – WhatTheyThink, the printing and publishing industry's leading media organization, today announced that it is acquiring DigitalPrint360 from Andrew Simmons. The current list of DigitalPrint360 subscribers will be merged into WhatTheyThink's weekly digital printing newsletter subscriber list. This is the fifth acquisition WhatTheyThink.com has made since 2007. Simmons will retain ownership of SocialPrintExperiment.com, a start-up digital printing business that has made its books open and viewable so followers can see the details of the entire business model.
DigitalPrint360 was founded by Simmons in 2001 as PrintOnDemand.com, an online news source for the digital printing industry. From 2002 to 2008, Simmons took a leave of absence from the business. During that time, the site was run by industry veteran Chuck Surprise. In 2007, the web domain was ultimately sold to Lulu.com, a self-publishing print broker, and the news source was renamed DigitalPrint360. Simmons returned to operate the business in 2008.
"I have been interested in finding a way to partner with WhatTheyThink for some time," Simmons said. "Randy Davidson and his team have done a terrific job of establishing WhatTheyThink as the undisputed leader in media services for the printing and publishing industry. I am thrilled that we were finally able to come to this agreement. I know that DigitalPrint360 subscribers will be pleased as well."
"In addition to acquiring DigitalPrint360's subscriber list," said Davidson, CEO of WhatTheyThink, "we will also have the pleasure of having Andrew join our family of WhatTheyThink contributors. Our readers will be able to benefit from his knowledge and expertise, and former subscribers to DigitalPrint360 will have access to a broader array of news, analysis, videos and more."
Financial details were not disclosed for this transaction between the two privately-held companies. The acquisition is effective immediately, and visitors to the DigitalPrint360 site will be redirected to WhatTheyThink.
