Print shops use Heidelberg Solutions for security printing

Press release from the issuing company

Kennesaw, GA - A Russian print shop specializing in security printing has received the 150th printing unit with rainbow device in its new Speedmaster SM 102 six-color UV press from Heidelberg. Rainbow printing allows simultaneous processing of different inks in a single ink fountain.

The rainbow device features a special knife-type ink fountain, individually adjustable ink distribution, and ink separation in the ink fountain. The different inks combine in a single ink fountain to produce controlled fine lines on the sheet. The resultant vignette within the print motif is key to security printing.

A customer in the Netherlands recently started using the first Speedmaster XL 105 equipped with a rainbow printing device. Rainbow printing is already available on the Speedmaster SM 52, SM 74, XL 75, and CD/SM 102 series. In 2007, the world's largest banknote printer - China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPM) - had installed 12 Speedmaster CD 102 presses at its various branches, all equipped with a rainbow printing device to print securities. Print shops specializing in security printing in Brazil, the U.S., and Europe also use special presses of this kind from Heidelberg. The presses are mainly used for the print of banknotes, security papers, check cards, driver's licenses, identity papers, postage stamps, and tax stamps.
