Press release from the issuing company
Andover, Massachusetts – Standard Finishing Systems' partners Horizon and Hunkeler will demonstrate a broad portfolio of new postpress and paper handling solutions--including a slate of first-ever showings and a world record for folding speed--throughout the halls of Ipex 2010 in Birmingham, England, May 18-25.
A range of tightly-integrated feeding and finishing solutions for the high-speed continuous-feed digital print and 30"-wide inkjet markets are also included, the result of close cooperation between leading postpress manufacturer Horizon and Hunkeler, a premier supplier of pre/post paper handling products. Standard represents both lines exclusively in North America.
Horizon's 13,000 square-foot exhibit at Ipex (Hall 20 Booth C650) will be the worldwide launch for the new Standard Horizon CABS 6000 perfect binding system, producing up to 6,000 books per hour. This 17-clamp system is intelligently automated from end-to-end with touchscreen control, and designed for quick, easy changeovers between conventional EVA and PUR adhesives. Further developments in book binding include the new 9-clamp SB-09S binder, which also features swappable glue tanks, and the all-new HT-80 automated three-knife trimmer, designed for operation in-line with the Standard Horizon BQ-470 perfect binder or for off-line use. The new BQ-160 entry-level binder will be shown the first time with PUR capability, ideal for short-run digital photo books and other applications. An innovative new cover creaser that receives crease position data directly from the BQ-160 will also be shown. A range of other Standard Horizon binders and trimmers will round-out the presentation.
Horizon has sold more than 3,000 production folders over the past ten years, and looks to extend their category leadership with the introduction of the new Standard Horizon AFC-746F folder, featuring full automation and throughput speeds up to a record-setting 787 feet/minute. The new PSX-56 Presser Stacker will be shown in-line with a range of Standard Horizon AF Series Folders, providing high-speed, non-stop production for 1, 2, and 3-up stacked output. The new Standard Horizon PF-40 entry-level, quick set-up suction-feed folder will also be shown, together with the complete Horizon folder portfolio.
Horizon will also demonstrate the new pXnet Bindery Information System, a tool for efficient bindery work planning, faster and more accurate make-readies, visibility into work-in-process, and capturing production statistics to help calculate real job costs.
In-line saddlestitching and folding solutions from a roll will also be demonstrated. The Horizon StitchLiner 6000 Digital will be fronted by Hunkeler unwinding and rotary cutting technology that has been tightly integrated with the Horizon saddlestitching platform, allowing customers to proceed from roll to finished booklets in one process with no intervention or touchpoints. The Horizon AF-566F Digital folder line provides comparable labor-saving efficiency for producing direct mail pieces or signatures from a printed roll. Both systems can also be placed in-line with a digital web press, for the ultimate in document automation.
Standard Hunkeler unwinders, rewinders, fanfolders, plow-folders, cutters, double-cutters and stackers will be operating throughout the halls at Ipex. Designed to work with high-speed digital printers at up to 720 feet/minute, with superior paper handling performance on a wide range of substrates, and cross-web chip-outs for full-color bleeds, proven Hunkeler solutions will be shown with 11 industry-leading partners including printer vendors HP, Infoprint Solutions Company / Ricoh, Kodak, Océ, Screen, Xeikon and Xerox.
The new Hunkeler PF7 Double Plow Folder will be presented on the Hunkeler stand (Hall 19 Booth C710) processing 30"-wide paper webs at 650 feet/minute. The double folding unit enables paper webs up to 30"-wide to be converted into four- or six-page signatures for smooth downstream processing.
The new Hunkeler PP6 Perforating and Punching module will also be shown, designed for inline finishing of paper rolls with tractor hole punching, cross-web fan-fold perforation, and file hole punching. The new PP6 is positioned between the UW6 Unwinder and the CF printer, and can print a register mark for precise registration of image on the processed sheet.
Hunkeler will also announce plans for the 2011 Hunkeler Innovationdays, which is scheduled to take place February 14-17 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Anchored by 70 partners and thousands of attendees, this event has become the most comprehensive assembly of live continuous-feed digital print and finishing solutions under one roof anywhere in the world.
Standard partner Tecnau will also show its latest developments in dynamic perforating in Hall 19 Booth C710.
