MIAMISBURG, Ohio -- NewPage Corporation announced today that effective with orders shipped April 20, 2009, Blazer Digital(R), a No. 3 coated paper for digital applications, will be Forest Stewardship Council(R) (FSC) chain-of-custody certified (BV-COC-953662) and manufactured with 10% post-consumer recycled fiber. FSC is an international, nonprofit organization that develops standards for responsible forest management, and accredits independent third-party organizations to certify forest managers and forest product producers to these standards.

Blazer Digital is also third-party chain-of-custody certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative(R) (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) schemes.

With this announcement, the entire NewPage digital product offering of Futura(R) Laser, Sterling(R) Ultra Digital, Sterling(R) Ultra Digital(TM) for HP Indigo, Productolith Pts. Digital(TM) and Blazer Digital are all triple chain-of-custody certified (available as FSC, SFI or PEFC).

"Chain-of-custody" is the traceable path logs take from the forest, through the pulp manufacturing process, to the paper mill, all the way through to the certified product sold to an end user. Compliance with this standard means that NewPage is established and engaged in "best practices" to obtain wood and pulp from legal sources while avoiding wood from areas where human rights have been violated, from high conservation value forests, from plantations that have been converted from natural forests and from genetically modified trees. Chain-of-custody must be in place at all steps along the supply chain in order for a Blazer Digital printed label or package to carry an FSC chain-of-custody label.
