VIGC launches videoportal for the printing industry

Press release from the issuing company

Turnhout (Belgium) -- VIGC, the Flemish Innovation Center for Graphic Communication has launched a new website, called VIGC.tv. It’s a unique resource for videos on the printing industry. It links to hundreds of relevant and interesting videos – mainly tutorials and reports – from around the world. VIGC.tv is the unique video portal for the printing industry. And it’s free.

“An image tells you more than a thousand words. Moving images tell you even more.”, says Eddy Hagen, managing director and trend watcher at VIGC. “There is a lot of interesting video content on the internet, and even more completely useless information. That’s the unique proposition of VIGC.tv: we filter the content for you. We only make videos available through our portal if they are relevant to the printing industry.”

Visitors of VIGC.tv can search for videos or they can use the ‘image cloud’ to select videos on a certain topic. All videos are freely accessible. A large percentage of the videos are tutorials on mainstream software products for the printing industry. “And there you see the power of video.”, continues Hagen. “Take e.g. the new ‘live preflight’ option that Adobe put in InDesign CS4. I can write a four pages article on it, which probably won’t really convince you. But look at the tutorial and you will understand why this feature alone is worth the upgrade to CS4, why this will give you a payback in only weeks.”

Unlike sites like YouTube and other video portals, users can’t upload their own content. The updating is a manual process, but it’s also a quality check: videos are checked upfront and if the content is not relevant, it will not be added to the VIGC.tv portal. E.g. pure commercial videos are not added at this moment. Although VIGC.tv has the option open to add a specific channel for commercial videos, if there is enough interest from the industry for such a channel. Updating is done on a regular basis.

“With VIGC.tv we offer another unique solution to the printing industry, next to the dedicated industry search engines, which can be found at GraphicBrain.com/search.”, Hagen concludes.
