Printing Industries of Illinois and Indiana recently held their 7th annual Pinnacle Print Awards Gala to recognize outstanding quality achievement in printing. Three Illinois winners used manroland presses to print their award-winning work. They are Digital Hub in Chicago, United Graphics & Mailing Group in Elk Grove, and Darwill Press in Hillside.
Digital Hub won two awards, including Best of Category, which was completed with all green materials to produce electrical light outlet stickers for client Eco Minders. The other was a Certificate of Merit that was earned for a presentation folder of four or more colors and done on behalf of client Lincoln Park Zoo, which is located in the same neighborhood as the Near North Side printer.
“We were really proud of the pieces and the stickers were done with UV inks and a hard cover shell envelope that was printed with vegetable-based inks,” said Michael Jones, marketing manager for Digital Hub. “Our ROLAND 300 press has done a great job with these and other jobs. We’ve had it about three years and it has a coater with a double perfector. We respect the quality of manroland presses and consider them to be top of the line.”
United Graphics & Mailing Group won a Best of Category award for a self promotion piece with spring posters. They also took home two Awards of Excellence for invitations of four or more colors for a Mardi Gras Ball invite, and notecards done for client Lakeshore East. Scott Hayner, one of the owners of the family-owned printer, said they’ve had the ROLAND 306 6-color with coater and perfector for nearly a year and it has made a huge difference.
“The ROLAND press has changed the way we print. Our production is way up due to faster makeready times. We also control color much better than before and print jobs now that we were never able to produce. The addition of the aqueous coater is new for us and I don’t know what we did without one,” Hayner said.
Darwill Press won a pair of awards for Best of Category and a Best of Division honor for work produced on their ROLAND 700 press.
