(August 18, 2008) As of August 1, 2008, Thorsten Kirchmayer (43) is the new Manager of the Amstetten site of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). Alongside Wiesloch-Walldorf and Brandenburg, the foundry and manufacturing site near Geislingen forms part of the Heidelberg manufacturing network. Amstetten is the competence center for the manufacture of castings and large parts such as cylinders and side frames. It is one of Europe’s most modern foundries and one of the 15 largest in Germany. The site has a workforce of around 1,250.

Thorsten Kirchmayer began his career at Heidelberg in 1985 and started a course of study in general mechanical engineering at the Heidenheim University of Cooperative Education in Amstetten. Having undertaken a range of tasks and managerial roles, he became Head of cylinder production in October 2000, a position with responsibility for around 250 employees. In mid 2006, Thorsten Kirchmayer moved to Wiesloch-Walldorf to take charge of series production in halls 4 and 12. Here, the Heidelberg workforce of approximately 900 manufactures rotational parts, cams, grippers and gears.

Thomas Doyon (55), the previous site Manager at Amstetten, is assuming the newly created role of Head of Organization and Improvement at Heidelberg with effect from August 1, 2008. He will report directly to Stephan Plenz, Management Board Member responsible for Engineering and Manufacturing. Thomas Doyon’s responsibilities include supervising the Heidelberg Production System (HPS). This entails an ongoing process of improvement in technology, covering development, procurement, production, manufacturing, assembly, and quality. It also includes standardizing processes and promoting ideas management at Heidelberg. The overall aim is to boost efficiency, productivity, and quality.

Thomas Doyon studied business engineering at the Technical University in Karlsruhe and, in 1983, he began his career at Heidelberg in the planning department at the Wiesloch-Walldorf plant. Following various roles in the sheetfed offset sector, he was appointed Assembly Manager at the Wiesloch-Walldorf factory in 1998. From 2001 until the takeover by Goss International, he was responsible for the production sites and product development of the Heidelberg Web Systems segment (web offset presses) headquartered in Dover, New Hampshire, U.S. Doyon became site Manager in Amstetten in January 2005.
