Modern Press Installs Third Komori Press

Press release from the issuing company

Rolling Meadows, IL, October 21, 2008 -- Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, today announced that Modern Press, a mailing and fulfillment commercial printer located in New Brighton, Minnesota, has recently installed a six-color Lithrone S40 (LS640). Modern Press produces a wide variety of applications for a variety of industries, and the company chose the Komori Lithrone S40 to replace two older presses. Key drivers include the advanced automation of the press, which allows for a 50 percent reduction in the company’s makeready time and enhanced color consistency.

“This is our third Komori press, and we couldn’t be more impressed with the equipment’s efficiency. We’re experiencing a massive decrease in makeready time,” said Kelley Frain, vice president of Modern Press. “A job which typically took an hour of makeready time on our older presses can be completed on the new LS640 in 15 to 20 minutes.”

This reduced production time is generated by a variety of innovations, including console-driven makeready and an automatic washing system for ink rollers, blanket cylinders, and impression cylinders.

Modern Press’s purchase of the six-color Lithrone S40 also improved color control. “We’re up to color within 300 sheets for a high design job on our new press—the same job would take about 1,000 sheets on our older equipment,” said Frain.

The LS640 features Komori’s PDC-SII, a print density control spectrophotometer capable of accurately measuring and correcting inconsistencies in density, dot gains, and chromatics. Choosing a press with this technology was an excellent choice for Modern Press because the company frequently handles jobs for the academic industry that require PANTONE matching.

“Modern Press is committed to providing its customers cost-effective, high quality products that meet specific standards,” said Mike VanCalbergh, vice president of sales for Komori’s Central West Region. “We’re pleased to uphold this tradition by providing them with presses that offer the advancements required for both efficiency and consistent quality.”
