The Bureau Selects EFI Hagen OA to Manage Hybrid Print Business
Press release from the issuing company
Foster City, Calif. – March 27, 2008 – EFI, the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that commercial printer The Bureau, of Minneapolis, Minn., has installed Hagen OA to manage their large volume of digital and offset work. The Bureau had been an EFI customer for a number of years using a discontinued product. Two years ago they decided to implement a competing “browser based” system, but quickly discovered that system did not have the depth of capability or flexibility of an EFI MIS system and came back to EFI to install Hagen OA. The Bureau then went through an accelerated installation and began using Hagen in January of this year.
The Bureau is one of four divisions of the Bureau of Engraving, Inc., which opened its doors in 1898. The Bureau offers full color digital and offset sheetfed printing as well as full service prepress, finishing and bindery capabilities for a diverse set of customers. On the digital side, The Bureau produces on demand jobs for 12,000 to 15,000 personalized textbooks a month along with work ranging from complex variable data applications to photo books, sales collaterals, training materials and other short run color projects. The offset side of the company handles a large volume of point-of-purchase and point-of-sale printing, along with commercial work for retailers, design agencies, Fortune 500 companies, health care and insurance firms.
Providing a robust and advanced accounting package with high-end applications for estimating, job management, scheduling, purchasing, inventory and fulfillment, EFI Hagen OA allows users to collect, share, analyze and respond to information in real-time.
“As a company we recognize the importance of embracing technology to deliver the best customer service, which is why we were willing to go through the pain of replacing a system that wasn’t working for us,” said Arnie Stull, CFO of The Bureau. “Once we got through deployment we were able to see through the initial ‘flash’ of the competing system. With MIS the functionality and the depth of the system are the critical factors, and overall, Hagen is a great fit for our business.”
“We’re extremely pleased with our Hagen system, and are certain we now have the right solution in place to meet not only our current needs but to handle the expected growth in volume of work,” he continued. “In particular, the data is very user-friendly and easy to work with, and we’re already using the system to integrate Accounts Payable across the four divisions, which is a huge time saver. Moving forward, we’ll be relying on the built-in JDF integration to ensure a successful workflow.”
JD Bagnell, director of product management, EFI Advanced Professional Print Software, said: “We’re always excited to work with customers to help them maximize efficiencies with an EFI MIS system, but the experience with The Bureau was even more rewarding. We were able to transition users from the previous system, quickly implementingHagen and enabling them to drive value from the system right away.”
