Heidelberg Presents the Speedmaster SM 52 Ten-Color Long Perfecting Press with New Anicolor Inking Unit

Press release from the issuing company

09/20/2007 -- Heidelberg will be displaying the Speedmaster SM 52 ten-color press with perfecting device and Anicolor inking unit at IGAS 2007. The event is to be held in Tokyo from September 21-27, 2007. The press combines the benefits of simultaneous printing on both sides of the sheet with all the advantages of Anicolor - up to 90 percent reduction in startup waste combined with exceptional quality and consistent inking. Depending on the print motif, the press is ready for production after only 40 sheets. The press is thus ideal for short runs with frequent job changes.
With its long perfecting presses in 35 x 50 centimeters (13.78 x 19.68 inches) format, Heidelberg opens the gateway for commercial printers to move into industrial production. Shorter delivery times, greater flexibility and increased productivity open up new market opportunities for these print shops and make them more competitive.
The long perfecting press is absolutely ideal for the Japanese market which mainly employs 4/4 colors plus coating. Print coatings help to protect against scratching, increase the scuff-resistance of the end product and speed up postpress.
Anicolor short inking unit - innovative technology
Heidelberg introduced the new Anicolor inking unit technology on a Speedmaster SM 52 four-color press at Ipex 06. This technology allows the advantages of offset printing to be harnessed for very short runs as well as longer runs. The major plus point of the Speedmaster SM 52 with Anicolor inking unit lies in the fact that it employs the tried-and-tested Alcolor continuous dampening system and therefore uses commercially available printing plates.
There is only a single inking form roller in the Anicolor short inking unit. This provides each printing element on the plate with the precise volume of ink required throughout the entire run. The Anicolor inking unit’s efficient temperature control system means that the amount of ink transferred to the relevant printing materials can easily be adapted over the entire printing form. When used in combination with the Alcolor continuous dampening system, Anicolor is a unique system worldwide and ensures excellent printing quality, outstanding consistency in the production run, and easy operation. The more standardized the print job processing is, the more the strengths of this system come into their own. The full potential of Anicolor technology is realized when it is combined with Prinect components and consistent standardization.
