Atlantic Zeiser Showcases SMARTCURE 72i LED UV at Emballage 2008
Press release from the issuing company
Emmingen, 27 November 2008 – Atlantic Zeiser, supplier of dedicated personalization and coding systems, concluded Emballage 2008 on a successful note, with very positive response to its new OMEGA 72i high-resolution inkjet printing system and the SMARTCURE 72i LED UV curing device. During the show, held November 17- 21st, 2008 in Paris, Atlantic Zeiser organized well-attended live demonstrations that featured a complete web-to-web-system for narrow web applications as well as high resolution digital printing and coding on various packaging materials. The demonstrations showcased the OMEGA 72i, the OMEGA 36HD, a digital inkjet printer featuring drop-on-demand array jet technology for optimal print quality, and the new eco-friendly SMARTCURE 72i LED UV curing device. The new BRAILLEJET high quality printing system for Braille, the touchable font for blind people, was a major technology highlight during the show.
OMEGA 72i and SMARTCURE 72i raise the bar for digital printing
Bernhard Thomma, Manager Marketing Services, comments: "Emballage was a successful show and we achieved our strategic objectives. The OMEGA 72i strengthens Atlantic Zeiser’s position in the digital printing market and closes the gap between our OMEGA 36 and 210 printers. The demos provided convincing proof that the OMEGA 72i is a superior choice for late-stage customization and personalization primary and secondary packages, flexible packaging and labels. It is ideally suited to handle a full range of applications and products in the packaging and printing industries."
The OMEGA 72i printer has a print width of 72mm, and operates with the next generation of LED UV curing solution, the SMARTCURE 72i. This printer directly addresses the needs of packaging and label printers for flexibility, speed and cost-efficiency. The LED technology used in the SMARTCURE 72i delivers space and energy savings when compared to other UV curing solutions, especially those using HG bulbs. With a maximum resolution of 360 x 360 dpi and a 60-meter per minute production speed, the OMEGA 72i provides efficient and economical single-pass inkjet printing of primary and secondary packages, labels, tags and other applications for the packaging industries.
OMEGA printer family – application oriented inkjet printing solutions
During Emballage, Atlantic Zeiser also showcased its OMEGA family of printers, offering flexible and application-oriented inkjet printing solutions for print widths up to 210 mm and up to 720 dpi resolution. The OMEGA 36 HD (“High Definition”) printer supports complex encoding within the smallest space requirements. Working in combination with Atlantic Zeiser’s proprietary inks, the OMEGA 36 HD ensures clear, crisp 720 dpi resolution of extremely small font sizes, foreign characters, graphics and logos. Bar codes are produced with excellent legibility. The result is perfect print quality and high readability for all kinds of scanners and readers. This lightweight and compact printer easily integrates into most existing equipment.
The OMEGA 36/36i is a versatile digital inkjet printer featuring drop-on-demand array jet technology, and efficiently performs variable data printing on a wide variety of substrates. It supports spot color and full color to match the customer's specific corporate identity requirements. The OMEGA printheads achieve the quality of flexographic printing, enabling customers to partially replace other analogue printing technologies like flexo or screenprinting.
The OMEGA 210 rounds out the OMEGA line, offering a simple one head design for uninterrupted printing across 210 mm width. The combination of Atlantic Zeiser’s high contrast inks and reliable and proven OMEGA inkjet heads ensures superb, crisp print quality with no visible stitching lines for seamless printing across the whole print head width.
SMARTCURE, the latest innovation in the SMARTCURE Series, was presented at Emballage as the ultimate advancement in second generation LED UV curing. Attendees were attracted by the solution's eco-friendly features, including significantly lower energy consumption compared to lamp-based systems, a ten time longer lifetime, no ozone generation and lower cooling requirements. The cost-saving SMARTCURE is equipped with an instant on/off functionality to eliminate energy consumption during machine stops. The compact size facilitates easy integration.
Enthusiastic response to BRAILLEJET
The technical challenges of printing and personalizing packaging with Braille, the touchable font for blind people, is an important industry issue. BRAILLEJET, Atlantic Zeiser's new high quality printing system for Braille, was presented as an innovative and accurate solution for the personalization and encoding needs of the packaging industry and pharmaceutical market. What makes BRAILLEJET unique is its revolutionary new micro valve technology, enabling fonts to be printed using UV curable high-viscosity ink and to achieve immediate fixation of the dots. The result is optimum readability and exceptional dot clarity.
"Visitors to our stand saw BRAILLEJET in action and how it combines the cost-effectiveness and flexibility of digital printing, with the capability to easily print variable data," notes Mr. Thomma. "The feedback we received is that BRAILLEJET offers superior technical and cost-saving advantages. For example, the expensive setup costs associated with silk-screen printing or embossing are totally eliminated." BRAILLEJET makes it easy to switch from one job to another. One print head prints two Braille lines simultaneously – the print width can be increased by seamless stitching of additional heads.
In addition to inkjet printing systems, proprietary printing inks, dryer and curing units, Atlantic Zeiser also provides total solutions with personalization technologies and transport units that are integrated according to the customer’s requirements.
Leader in full-spectrum Coding and Marking solutions
Bernhard Thomma concludes: “Seeing is believing, and Emballage enabled us to demonstrate how our digital printing solutions effectively resolve the problem of printing and coding on difficult substrates. We also strengthened our position as a full service system integrator, capable of providing a customized combination of solutions that can be tailored to the customer’s individual requirements, such as late stage product differentiation, flexible package production, and labeling for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and other packaging sectors."
