KODAK Automatic Pallet Loader for the KODAK MAGNUS VLF Platesetter Increases Automation and Manufacturing Efficiency

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 13 -- The new KODAK Automatic Pallet Loader increases the automation and manufacturing efficiency of the KODAK MAGNUS VLF Platesetter by loading up to 3,600 plates without manual handling. Optimized for easy and efficient bulk loading, the Automatic Pallet Loader can handle a large number of plates on pallets for faster plate loading, reduced manual plate handling, and longer unattended operation.
“By enabling simple loading of plates to the device, the Automatic Pallet Loader follows the principles of lean manufacturing and helps commercial printers streamline their production operations,” said Jamie Lyall, Product Manager, VLF, Kodak. “As the market leader in VLF computer to plate solutions, we understand the needs of printers in this segment and continue to maximize efficiency for our customers with bulk plate loading.”
The streamlined platemaking process begins with KODAK plates on pallets shipped directly to the customer from the factory. The KODAK Automatic Pallet Loader can be loaded with up to six pallets, each with as many as 600 plates, for fully automatic, online loading to the MAGNUS VLF Platesetter. The system allows for efficient end to end platemaking, including fully automatic unloading to the processing line. It features a large capacity slipsheet storage system that allows for easy disposal or reuse of slipsheet paper.
Available in multiple configurations to meet the specific needs of any operation, the Automatic Pallet Loader features one, two or three segments. Each segment can be customized to contain up to two stacks of plates. For maximum flexibility to meet current and future needs, the segments are field upgradeable.
The new Automatic Pallet Loader has been adapted to Cox Target Media’s new Valpak Manufacturing Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., scheduled to open in January 2008. The facility is a premier print and distribution center showcasing the latest automated material handling systems. Once completed, the facility will more than double Valpak’s production capacity. A key feature of the facility is the KODAK MAGNUS VLF Platesetter with Automatic Pallet Loader system.
“After reviewing several options, we decided that a dramatic change was necessary to keep up with our continued growth, according to David Fox, Vice President of Manufacturing for Cox Target Media. “Kodak was able to provide a unique solution to our enhanced manufacturing process.”
All MAGNUS VLF Platesetters with ContinuousLoad or Multi-Cassette Unit automation options are upgradeable to the Automatic Pallet Loader.
