Fairfax, Virginia. Feb. 7, 2008 - In a new outreach effort to the retail customer base for specialty imagers, SGIA announced plans to hold a first-ever sustainability event March 19 during Global Shop in Chicago, one of the biggest trade shows for the retail industry. SGIA's event, held in conjunction with SGIA member Ivey (Seattle, Washington), will host keynote speaker Terry Kelly, Nike Inc.'s Director of Content & Creative Management.
Kelly will address Nike's successful in-store sustainability initiatives, including the formation of the Nike Green Council, before an expected audience of more than 100 major retailers and specialty imaging companies. Carolyn Burns, Global Marketing Manager for DuPont Graphics, will discuss new product developments for DuPontTM Tyvek print media driven by Nike's in-store sustainability plans, particularly one to replace polyvinyl chloride (PVC) banner substrate.
Additionally, Pitman Co. and BEC will share their sustainability journeys that have come from Nike's in-store greening of the supply chain. The forum also features the newly formed Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership, which will launch March 11 at the National Environmental, Health & Safety Conference in Indianapolis. SGIA, a key player in the SGP Partnership, sees the upcoming Global Shop forum as a way to:
- Educate retail attendees at Global Shop on the value of working with sustainable printing businesses
- Reveal how one retail conglomerate is utilizing the sustainability philosophy within its in-store supply chain management
"SGIA is taking the sustainability dialogue to the end users of imaged products, and showing them the advantages of aligning with businesses that strive to meet environmentally conscious practices," says Marci Kinter, SGIA's Vice President of Government & Business Information.
