November 2007 - Bemis Valkeakoski Oy scooped the prestigious gold award at the ninth annual FlexoTech International Print & Innovation Awards held in London's Hilton Metropole Hotel, 17th October 2007.
The FlexoTech Awards are reputed to be one of the most prestigious, international events, sponsored by leading companies in the print industry. Of the 13 categories, entries were judged on special and successful use of new techniques & environmental benefits using machinery, equipment and materials for the advancement of flexography.
Bemis won the gold award for laminated substrates category for their ICA Riven Taco Ost design printed using their state-of-the-art, 10 colour Windmöller & Hölscher Novoflex press. The design was sandwich printed using the latest flexographic technology for the Swedish Ostkompaniet/ICA supermarket chain using OPALEN B 62 laminate for grated cheese.
The recent FlexoTech International Print and Innovation Awards in London attracted many entries in the laminated substrate category from around Europe. Out of the four finalists represented, Bemis won the award for its good combination print of line and half tone. By pushing the boundaries of modern flexo-printing, the challenges of superior registration, good contrast and sharpness, trapping & clever use of colour with the printing target were well achieved.
