Impresse Demonstrates PrintTalk Support With First Open, Standards-Based Transaction For Print Procurement
Press release from the issuing company
SUNNYVALE, CA, -- Impresse, the leading business-to-business collaboration and e-commerce service for the creation and procurement of marketing materials, demonstrated today its strong support for PrintTalk. Using the PrintTalk implementation of the Job Definition Format (JDF) standard, Impresse executed a print procurement transaction, featuring end-to-end integration and security, from buyerís procurement system through to printerís plant management system. PrintTalk implementations will result in streamlined and improved processes for buyers and printers to conduct commerce over the Internet, a goal shared by Impresse. In total, four companies demonstrated collaborative solutions using PrintTalk, proving the viability of the PrintTalk effort.
PrintTalk, a broad print industry initiative designed to facilitate interoperability through open standards with which printers and buyers can conduct business, is successfully addressing the need for common standards and implementations among the print community. The initiative eliminates barriers and offers opportunities for improved workflows, enabling all members of the printing community to benefit. A solid backer of this initiative, Impresse realized early the need for an open-architecture system that enables a secure workflow between companies that buy and sell printed material over the Internet. Impresse has been dedicating manpower to the initiative since co-founding PrintTalk, whose founding members include Avanti Computer Systems, Cirqit.com, Collabria, Inc., Graphic Arts IT, GraphiTech Computer Systems, httprint, Impresse, MediaFlex.com, MicroInk, Noosh, Inc., Pace Systems, Parsec Corporation, Presstige Software, Printable.com, printChannel.com, Printers Software, Inc., Profit Control Systems, Inc., Streamline Solutions and Wam!Net.
In todayís demonstration, a print buyer used impresse.com to create a request for quote (RFQ), deliver it to a preferred printer, and receive a quote back from the printer. All these communications were performed using PrintTalk. Another PrintTalk member, Parsec Corporation, received the RFQ, imported into their estimation package, and allowed the printer to review the estimate, again utilizing PrintTalk and without any manual intervention. The printer adjusted the automatically generated quote and delivered the quote back to impresse.com using PrintTalk. Finally, the buyer awarded the job to the printer within impresse.com. The demonstration showed how PrintTalk, combined with a leading print procurement and plant management system, will streamline the bid-quote process, reduce effort, and eliminate errors.
"This demonstration proves PrintTalk is real, is progressing rapidly, and will satisfy a critical need for the printing industry," said Steve Hallberg, President of PrintTalk and President of Parsec Corporation. "Only through open standards can printers utilize supply chain concepts to achieve the flexibility, agility, and responsiveness that is required today."
"Impresse is committed to enabling buyers and printers to collaborate effectively in the creation and production of printed materials," said Nimish Mehta, President and CEO of Impresse. "PrintTalk is leading the charge to create open standards for interoperability, and Impresse fully supports this effort. PrintTalk is a breakthrough for our industry, and its benefits for printers and buyers will be substantial."
