PIA/GATFPress Publishes Third Edition PDF Guide

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, PA, (November 13, 2007)--Since The PDF Print Production Guide was first published in the spring of 2003, the use of PDF files in print production has become increasingly prevalent. And while the availability of PDF-related tools and technologies has greatly expanded, PIA/GATF has kept pace. PIA/GATFPress is pleased to announce the release of The PDF Print Production Guide, Third Edition, which arms readers with proven techniques to maximize the potential of the latest PDF software and handle any possible problems that could arise.
Specifically, The PDF Print Production Guide, Third Edition places emphasis on test-driven "how-to" tips, tricks, and techniques for preparing bulletproof, print-ready PDF files using Creative Suite 3 and Adobe Acrobat 8. In the past, damaged PDF files required the use of third-party tools for repairs. This guide shows how-through use of the enhanced print production tools in Acrobat 8 Professional-files can be restored to their intended state with less reliance on third-party applications (although use of the best-known third-party applications are covered as well).
The PDF Print Production Guide, Third Edition covers the following:
Basics of PDF
PDF Creation
PDF Production Tools
Automating PDF
PDF "In the Trenches"
PDF Forms
Answers to FAQs regarding PDF use in print production
Properly created PDF files can resolve many of the problems commonly encountered with digital files created for printing. The PDF Print Production Guide, Third Edition can be the resource for providing the insight and answers necessary for a smooth transition from the digitally rendered concept to a high-quality printed piece.
Co-authors Joe Marin and Julie Shaffer bring their years of experience to play in this revision. Marin is the senior prepress instructor at PIA/GATF. Marin specializes in prepress and prepress instruction and leads several PIA/GATF training programs, including Orientation to the Graphic Arts and Advanced PDF for Print and Beyond.  Shaffer is the director of the Digital Printing Council. She is often called upon for training, presentations, and to provide on-site consulting throughout the world. She conducts research on topics ranging from PDF color management to Web-to-print implementation and is a frequent contributor to industry publications.
The PDF Print Production Guide, Third Edition (Item No. 17403) is now available for $50; PIA/GATF members pay just $40. In addition to this new title, all of PIA/GATFPress's nearly 200 publications are available online at www.gain.net, or by phone (toll-free 866-855-4283), fax (301-393-2555), or mail (200 Deer Run Road, Sewickley, PA 15143).
