MeadWestvaco Names Peter Doodeman European Managing Director of the Company's Consumer Solutions Group

Monday November 12, 2007 - RICHMOND, Va. - MeadWestvaco Corporation today announced that Mr. Peter Doodeman has joined the company as European managing director, Consumer Solutions Group (CSG). Effective today, Mr. Doodeman will focus on growth strategies for the company's consumer packaging solutions business in the European marketplace, with emphasis on the food and beverage, health and beauty, and tobacco businesses.

The MeadWestvaco CSG business includes packaging systems, creative design, print, manufacturing and systems, and offers a comprehensive, simplified process for developing innovative consumer packaging solutions. In his role, Mr. Doodeman will focus on profitable growth opportunities that maximize MeadWestvaco's consumer packaging platform and expertise, and enhance the company's ability to serve and grow with customers in Europe.
Prior to joining MeadWestvaco, Mr. Doodeman was vice president at Sara Lee Corporation and group president of Sara Lee Foods Europe. During his 13 year tenure at Sara Lee, he held other key leadership roles throughout Europe. Prior to Sara Lee, Mr. Doodeman held increasingly responsible management positions at Medicijn Express B.V., World Software Group B.V., Gist-Brocades, McKinsey, and Alza.
Mr. Doodeman's career is distinguished by his extensive experience driving growth and market share for consumer brands. He started at Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts as a vice president for corporate development for the Coffee & Tea, Household and Personal Care Divisions. During this phase of his Sara Lee tenure, he coordinated the acquisition of the Personal Care Division of Smith Kline Beecham and established a joint venture with them, soon thereafter becoming president for this business. While leading the business to sales and profit growth, he has successfully managed important personal care brands such as Duschdas and Badedas. He also became the president for the Sara Lee Foods division in Europe, where he managed the growth of leading brands like Aoste, Justin Bridou and Nobre.

He will initially be based in the Netherlands. Mr. Doodeman finished his Pharmacy study at the University of Leiden and received his MBA from Stanford Business School.
