MELBOURNE, Fla. – MGI Digital Graphic Technology, the multi-substrate (paper, plastic & envelopes) digital press and finishing solutions manufacturer, has received Encore Must See 'em honors for the Meteor DP60 Pro 4-color multi-substrate digital press, in recognition of its continuing impact on the graphics industry.
 
The awards were announced on August 11 during the PRINT 09 Must See 'ems Advance Sneak Peek Webcast, which also provided an overview of Critical Core Technologies under consideration for Must See 'em recognition. The full list of winners will be announced during the Executive Outlook Conference, held September 10.
 
MGI's Meteor DP60 Pro was first honored as a Must See 'em in the Presses-Production Color Digital category at GRAPH EXPO 2008, recognized as a technology that will impact virtually all printers. The Encore Must See 'em designation for PRINT 09 reaffirms the Meteor DP60 Pro as a true innovator in the digital industry.
 
The most versatile digital press in the industry, the Meteor DP60 Pro can handle paper weights from 20 lb bond up to 130 lb cover  (70 to 350 gsm) and plastics from 4 mil up to 16 mil (from 100µ up to 400µ). Compatible substrates include CS1/CS2, bond, Bristol and art/textured papers; PVC, polyester, polycarbonate, PET, polypropylene, vinyl and Teslin, as well as envelopes and certain specialty substrates such as canvas/buckram and magnetic material.
 
With the introduction of new Super Format print options for PRINT 09, the Meteor DP60 Pro now has the widest cut sheet size range of any digital press, from 4" x 6" (100 x 150 mm) up to 13" x 47" (330 x 1194 mm). Designed for higher volume applications, the Meteor DP60 Pro prints up to 3900 A4/letter sheets per hour and has full variable data capabilities. It produces brilliant prints at 2400 dpi @ 200 lpi resolutions (variable line screens available) and has integrated color management tools, such as an integrated densitometer and standard i1 spectrophotometer and can work in a variety of profiles, including Fogra (ISO 12647-7), ICC, SWOP and others. Other MGI exclusive features include an IR module/climate control system and pre-loaded substrate profiles (allowing the user to switch between paper and plastics in a matter of minutes). With the addition of the EnvelopExpress, printers have a digital solution for 4-color envelope printing with continuous feed capabilities.
 
The Encore Must See 'em is the 5th award received by MGI in the last 10 months, recognizing technological achievement for 3 unique products in 3 separate industry segments. In addition to the Must See 'ems for the Meteor DP60 Pro, MGI's JETvarnish digital inkjet spot UV coater received the Oscar de l'Emballage (packaging industry) and the Best Product of the Year from the European Digital Press Association (commercial printing). The Meteor DP20 4-in-1 digital photo press was named a 2009 DIMA Innovative Digital Product at PMA 2009 (photo industry).
