New QuadTech Press Ancillaries Ordered by Villages Daily Sun

Press release from the issuing company

The Villages Daily Sun, publishers of The Daily Sun, has ordered a QuadTech Register Guidance System with MultiCam to be installed at its plant in central Florida, USA, in November 2006. According to ABC figures The Daily Sun has been the fastest growing newspaper in the United States over the past two years, and the company is looking to build on this success by saving valuable time and reducing waste with its new QuadTech equipment. With circulation figures growing so fast, the demands on the companys DGM 430 line press and its operators are rising. Installing the Register Guidance System with MultiCam will help automate the process, easing the burden on workers. The company also undertakes a lot of commercial jobs, further increasing the workload and adding the extra pressure of customer demands. Ingo Fockler, Operations Manager, Villages Daily Sun, comments, "With our customers expecting a high level of quality in the finished products we supply, it is imperative that standards are maintained throughout the run. This means controlling register extremely tightly. QuadTechs Register Guidance System is a tried and tested solution in this respect." With commercial work printed at a higher standard of quality, and the price of paper continuing to rise, the need to cut down on waste has never been stronger. The equipments ability to maintain exceptional register control ensures that, even during web tension upsets, waste copies and rebates are kept to an absolute minimum." The QuadTech system to be installed at the Villages Daily Sun will benefit from the features of QuadTechs industry-leading MultiCam camera. Able to search for register marks as small as 0.36mm (0.014 in) at speeds of up to 17.8 M/sec (3500 ft/min), the MultiCam also covers a wider area of the press than most of its competitors. The Daily Sun has used color since it was first published in 1997. Since then the use of color in the newspaper industry has increased dramatically. Fockler elaborates, "The amount of color used in newspapers is still rising, partly due to the escalation in full color advertising. Therefore, it is vital that the color we print is consistent and of high quality. The Register Guidance Systems high-performance will help ensure we achieve this." Fockler concludes, "Automation is a key factor in increasing productivity. Because the QuadTech equipment will help automate the printing process. This means we will need less staff attending to the press on each job, freeing operators to work on other things. I am looking forward to the benefits that this will bring in terms of increased productivity at our plant."
