Transcontinental Media Acquires Southern Saskatchewan's The Triangle News

Press release from the issuing company

Montreal, October 24, 2006 – Transcontinental Media today announced it has acquired the bi-weekly newspaper The Triangle News, based in Coronach, Saskatchewan. Founded in 1983, The Triangle News is currently printed at the nearby Moose Jaw Times-Herald printing operation, owned by Transcontinental Media. The transaction will strengthen Transcontinental Media’s position in the area, as the Newspaper Group already owns three other newspapers in Saskatchewan. The acquisition brings Transcontinental Media’s newspaper total to 163 community publications across Canada, totalling some 250 million copies annually. “This acquisition is in line with our long-term strategy to increase our presence in Southern Saskatchewan, with a goal of providing editorial and advertising content to more than 65,000 households in 140 communities,” said Marc-Noël Ouellette, Senior Vice President, Newspaper Group at Transcontinental Media. Rob Clark, Group Publisher for the Saskatchewan newspapers, added: “The community-based editorial content and loyal readership of The Triangle News make it a great addition to our portfolio of newspapers.” Randall and Wanda Burns, owners of The Triangle News, commented: “Transcontinental, with its strong tradition of serving community needs across Canada through local newspapers, is the perfect inheritor for the voice of our region. We are very pleased to know that the paper we founded in 1983 will be in good hands.”
