KENNESAW, Ga., October 11, 2006 – Heidelberg will demonstrate new additions to its Prinect family of integrated workflow management solutions at the 2006 Graph Expo tradeshow. Among the new innovations, Heidelberg will unveil Prinect Inpress Control, the first measuring device for inline spectrophotometric color measurement for Speedmaster CD 74 and Speedmaster XL 105 presses, and the new Prinect Integration System, including Prinect Pressroom Manager, the world’s first JDF-based prepress to pressroom system capable of controlling and managing all data required in print production. Booth visitors also can learn about Prinect Digital Print Manager, a universal Prinect workflow for offset and digital print. These new additions to the Prinect family can be seen at the Heidelberg Booth # 1200 at the tradeshow, which is being held in Chicago at McCormick Place on Oct. 15 – 18, 2006. “Heidelberg is committed to helping printers find new ways to improve productivity in the pressroom and beyond and gain maximum transparency in their shops,” said James Mauro, Prinect product manager, Heidelberg USA. “Our family of Prinect integrated workflow products delivers these benefits and more, ensuring top quality, visibility and production consistency for the printer.” Prinect Inpress Control: Prinect Inpress Control is an inline color measurement device for the CD 74 and XL 105 that measures the color and register on the fly while the press is running, even at full operating speeds. Integrated in last printing unit before coating, and/or before the perfecting unit of the press, the Prinect Inpress Control system is specially designed for printers who change jobs frequently and use standardized printing procedures. The solution maximizes productivity since it eliminates the need to stop the press during the measuring process in makeready and production and enables registration to be checked and adjusted automatically. The system continuously measures the control bar and transfers measurements directly to the Prinect CP2000 Center press control system to automatically perform simultaneous adjustment of ink ducts in all printing units. This results in fast set-up times as well as highly consistent and stable inking throughout the production run. Among the advantages of Prinect Inpress Control are the following: - Faster inking-up and less waste due to set-up and inking adjustments on the fly – without pulling sheets - Initial production results indicate savings of approximately 8 – 12 minutes and 100 – 150 sheets per makeready - Precise color matching for CMYK and special colors through spectral inline measurement - Consistent print quality enabled by continuous monitoring and adjustment, even at full running speeds of 18,000 impressions per hour - Automatic register control and adjustment in parallel to color measurement, eliminating the need for extra register adjustment - Flexible positioning of the quality control strip from the leading edge of the sheet to its center - Touch-screen control through the Prinect CP2000 Center is easy to use and saves time for the printer - Available for the CD 74 and XL 105 in straight or perfecting configurations Prinect Inpress Control will be available for the Speedmaster CD 74 and Speedmaster XL 105 press series. It will be introduced to the market in stages starting in late 2006 and mid 2007. Prinect Pressroom Manager: The JDF-based Prinect Pressroom Manager enables full integration of the pressroom to automate and enhance key areas of the workflow. With Prinect Pressroom Manager, job data entered in the JDF ticket by the print management information system can be called up anywhere in the pressroom, such as at the pressroom manager's workstation, the operator's console or the press itself. The information provided by the JDF provides key job presetting data for the press, including presetting the ink fountains as well as sheet format and travel throughout the press. This accelerates production flow and leads to high process reliability. Intelligent JDF routing seeks out the information required for the particular print job and transfers it directly to the relevant press – without the need for manual intervention. The Prinect Pressroom Manager is based on and shares the proven JDF technology as the Prinect Printready System. Prinect Pressroom Manager will be offered as a stand-alone solution in the pressroom or can be combined with Heidelberg’s Prinect Printready System and the new Prinect Integration System to enable maximum transparency in printshop processes and full automation of the production and management processes. The Prinect Integration System enables centralized data management in a printshop using JDF, which allows all production processes in job management, prepress, press and postpress to be fully integrated in a fully integrated workflow management system. The two-way exchange of data throughout the entire workflow via JDF and JMF leads to full cost control and takes process integration in print shops to a new level. The scalability of the solutions allows customers to adapt their systems to their particular rate of growth. All new Speedmaster presses can be connected directly to the Prinect Pressroom Manager, as well as older generation CPC1.04-equipped Speedmaster presses via the Prinect Online Kit. The system integrates presses and finishing equipment that can not be integrated online through a Production Data Terminal, which keeps the JDF information structure up-to-date for accurate production data collection throughout the entire shop. Prinect Digital Print Manager: To extend their print services offering, offset print shops are increasingly adding digital print capabilities to their portfolio. In the past, this process has required shops to set up separate capital- and cost-intensive workflows for digital and offset services. With Prinect Digital Print Manager, printers now can integrate digital print systems from Xerox, HP Indigo and Kodak into the Prinect workflow, making Prinect a unified workflow for non-variable print products, regardless of whether print output is done on offset or digital presses.
