Comprint Installs QuadTech Press Controls

Press release from the issuing company

Comprint Printing, based in Maryland, USA, has invested in the QuadTech Register Guidance System with MultiCam and QuadTech Data Central, integrated through the QuadTech ICON platform. The equipment will be installed on the company’s new Mitsubishi Dimondstar double-width press. Comprint Printing is a subsidiary of Post Newsweek, that publishes weekly community newspapers across the state of Maryland. The company also has a large base of commercial customers, requiring it to print a wide variety of products ranging from broadsheets to half and quarter fold tabloids. Press management is made easy thanks to the ICON platform, which integrates controls of all ancillaries with the press. Subsequently, saleable copy can be achieved quicker and press operators are freed to take on other tasks. John Payne, Director of Printing at Comprint Printing, comments, “Having the systems integrated in this manner is just one of the ways that the new equipment will help us minimise waste. Combined with the technology of the Register Guidance System with MultiCam, we are certain that the savings made will mean a rapid return on investment.” The MultiCam’s 640 x 480 pixel sensor can find marks up to 30-times a second, faster than many competitive sensors, which means reduced makeready times and less waste, especially during periods of maximum register upset such as during a web splice. Payne elaborates, “Registration is maintained during the entire course of the press run. The system can be set up to predict the position of register marks during acceleration and slow down. This will dramatically reduce waste copies on hot and cold press start-ups.” Data Central’s Performance Reporting Module will be able to accurately verify how much waste Comprint Printing saves. The module collects color, color registration and cutoff data from the ICON platform and generates reports which quantify performance parameters. Payne concludes, “We see QuadTech as a company that mirrors our own business values; striving to be the leader in its industry. We are looking forward to developing our relationship in the future.”
