Package Design's Third 'Makeover Challenge' Invigorates an All-Natural, Vegan-Certified Health and Beauty Brand

Press release from the issuing company

Aug. 9, 2006, Malvern, PA — Lyons Media, publisher of Package Design Magazine, reveals the impressive entries into the third annual Package Design Makeover Challenge with the publication of the July/August 2006 issue. The Makeover Challenge is a one-of-a-kind competition involving five design teams, a line of packages from a brand seeking guidance, and online voting from the magazine's readership. This third edition of the design contest is sponsored by Paxonix, a division of MeadWestvaco that provides software asset management solutions to the packaging field. Participating design teams represent some of today's top package design professionals: Kendall Ross, Seattle, WA; LOGOSBRANDS, Toronto, ON; Object 9, Baton Rouge, LA: TricorBraun Design, St. Louis, MO; and William Fox Munroe, Shillington, PA. The five teams were profiled in the May 2006 issue of Package Design Magazine as the Challenge began. The task before the teams was to recreate new packages and a new brand identity for four SKUs of the Fresh Body Market brand of vegan-certified soap and lotion products. Fresh Body Market produces all-natural health and beauty products that have real fruits and vegetables as ingredients, which require freshness dating. "The participants in this year's Makeover Challenge have surprised us again with their inventive and innovative approaches to this year's challenge," says Chris Lyons, publisher of Package Design Magazine. "This competition always offers our readers many insights into all the intricate and artistic elements involved in presenting a brand as a top-of-the-line offering." Complete before-and-after photos and summary accounts of each team's Makeover are in the July/August 2006 issue of the magazine, and 3D models of each package are viewable online at the Package Design Magazine website: www.packagedesignmag.com. Designers at Brandimation, a package design, product development, and web-based solution company in Morrisville, PA, prepared interactive 3D images for the online voting experience. Readers of Package Design are asked to cast their ballots online before the voting deadline of September 15. Voters should vote their conscience on which team presented the best overall package design repositioning of the Fresh Body Market brand. The Makeover Challenge winning package redesign will be the design team that amasses the most online votes. This team will be honored with an in-depth cover story profile in the November/December 2006 issue. The major sponsor of the Challenge is Paxonix, a MeadWestvaco division that provides software asset management solutions to the packaging field. The design teams were able to use the latest version of their PaxPro software during the Challenge free of charge. The newest version, PaxPro 3.0, allows designers to create mission-critical, packaging-driven strategies to improve time to market.
