Xerox Completes Acquisition of Amici LLC

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--July 24, 2006-- Xerox Corporation has completed the previously announced acquisition of Amici LLC for $174 million - officially launching the Xerox Litigation Services line of electronic discovery and records management services. Xerox Litigation Services combines records management consulting from Xerox Global Services with Amici's e-discovery technology to give customers an efficient and secure way to collaborate with law firms, partners and government agencies on litigation and regulatory compliance matters. E-discovery is the identification, filtering, production and storage of relevant data from paper or electronic documents, like e-mail, text files, memos, databases, presentations and spreadsheets. Projected to grow at an annual compounded rate of close to 40 percent, e-discovery services could be a nearly $2.5 billion market in the U.S. by 2009, according to industry research firm IDC. Former Amici CEO Craig Freeman now becomes vice president and general manager of Xerox Litigation Services. Freeman has been responsible for the design and implementation of e-discovery systems for some of the most complex litigation matters in the country. He was the co-leader of the Discovery Services practice at Navigant Consulting and has overseen the evolution of various Discovery technologies since the 1980's. "The significant increase in volumes of electronic discovery documents along with an increase in judicial awareness, as evidenced by proposed revisions to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, requires a more sophisticated and structured approach than was taken in the past for civil cases," said Freeman. "The requirement to produce all relevant, accessible data in defined formats under intense time pressures means a company's records management strategy must now include the capability to respond quickly. A trusted third-party provider of records and document management services specializing in litigation services can make the difference in fulfilling these requirements." Xerox Litigation Services will offer customers a complete and accurate legal document management system, including pre-discovery consulting services, data harvesting, and data storage. Xerox Litigation Services will become a unit of Xerox Global Services. Amici LLC was a privately-held company founded in 2002. Its 125 employees, most of who are based at the company's headquarters in Albany, N.Y., now join Xerox. The all-cash purchase of the business of Amici was completed July 21.
