Berlin, 12 July, 2006 -- Personalised images create an impact at first sight. But as every printer knows, the smooth production of high-volume personalised direct mail products involves much more than just image files.
That is why DirectSmile 3.0 offers its users comprehensive functionalities for the efficient generation of printed products with multiple personalisation features. The new modules for variable data printing simplify the handling of personalisation data, ensure smooth production procedures, and help to save time and money in day-to-day production.
For example, the Database Module and Joblets offer comfortable processing of entirely different databases; VB-Scripts open a vast range of opportunities for even the most
sophisticated individualised applications; E-Mailing and Personal-URL enable the user to cross media boundaries.
“For our customers in the printing industry, image personalisation means highly professional work in the daily production process, frequently involving print runs of hundreds of thousands of copies. In this environment, the only thing that counts is the workflow! That is why DirectSmile software offers comprehensive document and VDP functions. And the new modules offer even more opportunities and efficiencies,” comments Christoph Schacht, President, DirectSmile.
The new modules are now available for all versions of DirectSmile 3.0. Users can update their versions seamlessly and perform sophisticated tasks with variable content, for example crossmedia projects, or the integration of web-to-print solutions such as iWay. Many modules are already included in the various DirectSmile Editions.
DirectSmile 3.0 software for image personalisation is available from €4,990, including Design Editor, a document solution for Adobe InDesign, and a freely selectable output driver.
The available DirectSmile modules include the following:
Database Module
Allows for editing of databases directly in the job window, swift sorting and filtering of data to any desired criteria, and management of multiple tables within a single job. Moreover, it offers the simple creation of mappings, i.e. allowing completely different database formats to be represented in a single document.
Production Server with Load Balancing
With DirectSmile, the user can adapt a system to individual production requirements as necessary, simply adding as many Production Servers as required. This makes it possible to process as many as 1 million images per hour!
VB-Script
For complex document jobs, VB scripts can be generated, for example for the automatic calculation of calendars. The module offers access to all variables within the object hierarchy of a document. Many functions for conversions, e.g. “All Upper Case”, “All Lower Case”, or “Remove Spaces” are already preselected.
Barcodes
All standard barcodes can be generated by simply selection, including checksums, eliminating the somewhat cumbersome process of handling barcode fonts.
PDF Importer
Variable print documents can be generated directly from the customer’s PDF documents. The PDF is simply imported in its entirety, the personalisation fields are created and then printing initiated.
Joblets
This function allows the user to generate icons on the desktop for frequently recurring jobs. By simply dragging the customer database onto the icon, the job with all its settings is produced automatically.
E-Mailing Module
Users can generate image personalised e-mail campaigns with virtually unlimited variability in content. This makes it possible to incorporate not only personalised images, but also for example different products for different target groups and comes complete with a graphic HTML personalisation tool and connectivity to an HTML Editor.
Personal URL
Give your Internet customers a personal welcome: after entering a personal URL, every visitor lands on an image personalised home page! The landing pages for thousands of different users are generated automatically from the database.
Other modules offer connectivity to CRM and ERP systems, document configuration for webto- print solutions, or seamless processing of the next job after initiating a print job via Central Print Queue.
