MeadWestvaco Names Mark S. Cross Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets

STAMFORD, Conn.--June 20, 2006-- MeadWestvaco Corporation today announced that Mark S. Cross is joining the company as senior vice president. In this position, he is responsible for overseeing MeadWestvaco's strategic marketing, business development activities and operations in emerging markets, with specific focus on China and India. Mr. Cross previously worked for JohnsonDiversey, Inc., a leading global provider of cleaning and hygiene solutions to the institutional and industrial marketplace, since 2003. He first served as senior vice president and group president in charge of the Latin America and Asia-Pacific regions, and then became president of the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region. "Mark brings extensive international business management experience to his new role, and he will be a valuable addition to MeadWestvaco's Leadership Team," said John A. Luke Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, MeadWestvaco. "We have identified the key markets and regions that will support our growth in packaging and packaging solutions, and Mark's background and expertise will be instrumental in helping us achieve a new level of global success." Mr. Cross will report to Mr. Luke. Prior to JohnsonDiversey, Mr. Cross worked for 24 years for Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB - News), holding a variety of marketing and general management positions with this company, in North America and Europe, culminating in his leadership of Kimberly-Clark Professional. Mr. Cross graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and received a Master's in Business Administration with high distinction as a Baker Scholar from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Cross will be located in Richmond, Va., where MeadWestvaco is relocating its corporate headquarters.
