One of Europe's most established printing companies, Ziegler Druck und Verlags-AG, has purchased a new range of QuadTech products to enhance the quality of its print production.
The order, installed in two waves over September 2005 and March 2006 on one brand new MAN Rotoman press and two other Rotoman presses, consisted of three QuadTech Register Guidance Systems with MultiCam, three QuadTech Ribbon Control Systems with MultiCam and three QuadTech, Data Central, modular systems. The systems will be integrated through three QuadTech ICON platforms.
The first wave of installations proved a massive success. Pedro Schmidt, Technical Director comments, “After the first batch of QuadTech equipment was installed we noticed a vast improvement in productivity and customer satisfaction. We made similar gains in press efficiency and waste reduction. Furthermore, we actually found that the final product that we were turning out was of higher quality.”
Ziegler employs over 300 people and has been one of the leaders in Swiss print production for many years. Pedro Schmidt elaborates, “We have evolved alongside the industry, ensuring that our finger is always on the pulse. We realise the importance of keeping on top of market trends and that is why we always invest in the most up to date technology.”
The company, whose range of services include publishing periodicals, magazines, prospectuses and catalogues - as well as all aspects of prepress, press, postpress, distribution and address administration - were impressed by the QuadTech equipment seen in operation on a research trip to Germany. Pedro Schmidt explains, “Our evaluation of potential new presses took us to several printing plants. After witnessing the QuadTech equipment in action, we felt quite sure that this would be our favoured solution and decided to invest in an integrated package for the new presses.”
Paolo Griffani, supervisor of the printing department continues, “The QuadTech Register Guidance System immediately caught our attention. The power the equipment gives us to control direct-printing applications will help us to fulfil our promises to our clients: that we are providing them with the highest quality, every time. The QuadTech Ribbon Control System with MultiCam is also set to become an integral part of Ziegler's printing production. We fully expect these two systems to speed up makeready and minimize the consequential waste of start-ups and tension upsets during splices.”
Maintaining color consistency is high on the company's list of priorities. Many of the publications produced rely on advertising, where color is all-important. Pedro Schmidt explains, “Customers demand consistent, high quality color, especially when it comes to their corporate colors and branding, so we saw the investment in the QuadTech Color Control System as a must. With this equipment installed, we will be able to guarantee that our jobs will be of the highest possible quality, and our colour spot on.”
Ziegler continues to look to the future. This is the reason for retrofitting the two Rotoman right now. Pedro Schmidt concludes, “Our investment in the QuadTech equipment is testimony to our continued dedication to producing quality products for our customers. The equipment will give us peace of mind that our standards our being upheld, even exceeded, while waste is kept to a minimum. I'm sure that QuadTech and Ziegler will continue to do business in the future.”
Established in Winterthur, Switzerland, in 1861, Ziegler has a rich tradition of producing groundbreaking Swiss Newspapers and magazines such as Der Landbote (“The Land Messenger”), which was credited with playing a significant role in the development of Switzerland's human rights laws in the 19th century.
