Heidelberg Prinect Meta Dimension Software to Encompass Adobe PDF Print Engine
Press release from the issuing company
4/6/06 -- Today Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) unveiled its plan to introduce the new Adobe PDF Print Engine into its Prinect production workflow system. With the PDF Print Engine, Heidelberg's Prinect customers will get access to a PDF workflow spanning consistently from the creative professional to the production stages of the print service providers by using one common PDF technology. Also, Heidelberg Prinect users can be among the first to use the latest PDF technology to serve their customers which will help to strengthen their competitiveness.
As a first step, Heidelberg is currently implementing the Adobe PDF Print Engine into its Prinect MetaDimension RIP and plans to ship it as part of Prinect MetaDimension offering in late 2006.
"Being a partner to Adobe since we shipped "RIP1" - the world's first High Resolution RIP - to the graphic arts industry, Heidelberg welcomes the new PDF Print Engine. It will enable Heidelberg to improve its versatile and robust Prinect PDF/ Postscript rendering products even further. Based on our native Prinect JDF architecture we will use the Adobe PDF Print Engine to build new products along the whole workflow chain enabling our customers to use the most advanced PDF technology in a completely integrated environment to serve their clients best," said Dr. Peter Leu, Vice President of Prinect Product Management at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
The new Adobe PDF Print Engine is a completely JDF/JMF controlled software engine which is optimally suited for the integration into Heidelberg's native JDF Prinect architecture. The Prinect concept holds job data in a fundamental JDF architecture which makes it particularly straight forward for Heidelberg to implement the benefits of the PDF Print Engine across its whole range of workflow applications, from softproofing at the creative professional to Prepress and Press, digital as well as offset.
"Adobe PDF and JDF are the backbone of the Adobe PDF Print Engine and a building block of Heidelberg's Prinect production workflow system," said Don Walker, Senior Director, Product Marketing and Business Development, Adobe Systems. "The Adobe PDF Print Engine reflects the strong adoption of PDF in the graphic arts industry, combining the strengths of Adobe PDF to preserve source file content and JDF to manage the printing process, ensuring reliable, consistent and profitable print workflows."
