Artwork Systems Announces Nexus 8.2 Upgrade Release
Press release from the issuing company
Ghent, Belgium – April 4, 2006 – Artwork Systems Group N.V., a world leader in professional prepress software for commercial and packaging applications, announces an array of advancements to its internationally-renowned Nexus workflow solution. Highlights include a second-generation version of the company’s Concentric Screening, numerous front-end navigation and control improvements in Nexus Manager, refinements to Certified PDF and WebWay approval processes, improved JDF capabilities, and enhanced PDF trapping capabilities at the RIP.
This new version of Nexus builds on a major upgrade version unveiled last fall at Print 05, which delivered enhancements including export of native PDF files specifically for Adobe Illustrator, as well as implementation of a new JDF-based step-and-repeat mechanism for PDF files. Nexus 8.0 also offers enhanced color mapping and broader functionality for versioning in packaging applications. Several new screening sets including the optional new Concentric Screening are also available in the version 8.0 release.
Artwork Systems’ Nexus customers with maintenance contracts can download Nexus 8.2 directly from the download center.
Nexus 8.2 Release Overview
Nexus Manager - This control application allowing users from inside or outside the company to monitor job progress and workflows from a Macintosh workstation over TCP/IP now offers advancements for more streamlined workflow control. New features include better browser control, viewable Nexus server usage/availability status, expanded editing and tracking features, and expanded “analyze file” capabilities.
Nexus Processor automates time-consuming or repetitive content-related tasks that operators perform on a daily basis, resulting in substantially increased productivity. New Certified PDF Report options, increased notification functionality for WebWay approvals, and expanded font and text size editing are new in Nexus 8.2.
Nexus RIP, Artwork Systems’ powerful RIPping and screening engine, has been updated to include:
•Enhanced PDF Trapping - The Detect Small Gaps option finds very small gaps in-between objects (smaller than 0.02 mm) and ignores those during the trapping process. While this increases calculation time slightly, the trapping result is significantly improved.
•In the Raster Trap activity, it is now possible to define Other Cutbacks, manual traps and non-trap colors in the workflow. In version 8.1 and earlier, these settings could be made in the job editor, but now they can be addressed within the workflow itself.
•Full, 7-color support for Epson x800 series devices.
Screening - Nexus offers an array of screening technologies including Paragon, Hybrid, PlateCell Patterning and new Concentric Screening. Paragon Organic Screening, a 2nd generation FM screening technology, has been updated in Nexus 8.2 to include a wider array of dot sizes.
