ProImage NewsWay Anchors CtP for Daily Times-Call, Colorado.
Press release from the issuing company
Princeton, NJ – 1st April 2006: ProImage has today, at NEXPO, announced that it has successfully completed the installation of its NewsWay browser-based production tracking and workflow solution at Lehman Communications’ the Daily Times-Call, Longmont, CO.
Suzanne Barrett, IT Manager, Lehman Communications Corp. commented, “Our goal has been to tie four divisions together - consisting of three daily newspapers and four weeklies and more than 100 commercial clients - at the same time standardizing production procedures and quality.
“We have now survived a full weekend of producing the largest papers of the week, with the smallest staffs, on our new NewsWay workflow system. It works just as promised and it does so very elegantly. Within a little over one month from the start of installation we have achieved the goal, while significantly reducing production costs and improving print quality.
“We all, especially IT and prepress staff, highly regard ProImage’s professionalism and thank its staff for helping us get there, on time.”
All Lehman Communications’ offices are along the Front Range in Colorado, where it has two print sites, one in Longmont, at the company’s corporate headquarters where Daily Times-Call, Daily Reporter-Herald and Colorado Hometown Newspapers are printed. The other print site is at Cañon City where the Daily Record is printed.
“Our drive was to implement CtP, which we have now successfully achieved,” adds Suzanne Barrett. “NewsWay provides us with the foundation of our end-to-end production management system, managing multiple zoning for multiple products.”
NewsWay automation at Lehman Communications:
At the Daily Times-Call NewsWay integrates the Tera GN3 editorial and Tark archive systems, and the SCS Layout 8000 and ClassPag systems, governing layout geometry and classified pagination information. OneVision's Asura software is used for the Optimization and Preflight of PDF files.
NewsWay imports files from a Layout 8000 system and stitches together separate bitmap or PDF Advertising elements and imports the Editorial content, based on the layout geometry. Its Edition Planning capability includes edition tracking, soft proofing, e-mail conferencing, and annotation. Commercial customers may track jobs, soft proof, and approve pages over the Web.
Before output, and load balancing of the two Creo/Kodak Trendsetter CtP machines, NewsWay’s Plate Wizard is used to create custom (2-, 4-, and 8-up) impositions or other custom plate configurations, allowing pages to be dragged into the appropriate place on the plate template for automatic imposition. Text burning on the plate, job scheduling, FTP transmission, a plate editor and pasteboard are all also automatic features within NewsWay’s powerful workflow solution.
Deadline monitoring and automated event notification are features designed to keep everyone in the production process notified of progress, but Suzanne Barrett states, “I believe the key, when first installing such a mission critical system and ongoing, is that all departments, including IT, communicate – we regularly talk to each other.”
