Premier Manufacturer of Pull-Tab Tickets Installs New KBA Rapida 105 Six-Color

Press release from the issuing company

KBA North America, a leading supplier of sheetfed offset and digital presses based in Williston, VT, is announcing that International Gamco, North America’s premier manufacturer of pull-tab tickets based in Omaha, Nebraska, has installed in November 2005 a KBA Rapida 105 41-inch six-color sheetfed press with aqueous coater. Unique work calls for high quality and secure print location “The primary factor behind purchasing the new KBA press was to improve our efficiencies,” says Ken Moses, Gamco’s operations manager. “We wanted to replace two presses with one more automated model. But in our specific niche industry, we need to provide the highest quality to our customers as well as supply them with the ability to produce their jobs from start to finish inhouse. By the nature of the business, we also have to provide high security for these jobs.” Moses explains that the firm spent three years of diligently researching the various sheetfed presses available on the market. The firm narrowed their choice to three manufacturers. Best choice was KBA “We came to the conclusion that KBA was the best choice for us,” says Moses. “The KBA Rapida 105 allows us to stay with the 41-inch size we are accustomed to using but it gives us a bevy of automation and the capability to move into UV coating if the market demands it. The automation on press gives us faster makeready and a faster speed than our other presses. We’re able to get up to saleable press sheets much faster than our other presses; in fact, we’ve reduced makeready by 2/3 by using the KBA. The Rapida 105 features a completely automated plate changer and an ink system that is more beneficial to us than we originally thought.” International Gamco chose to equip the Rapida 105 with an optional ink system from Accel that allows the press to use less ink and run cleaner. “The ink system has not only reduced our costs based on the amount of ink that we don’t waste, but we don’t have to worry about ink management any more.” Ultra Fast and Stress-free installation The November 2005 installation went without a hitch at the Omaha, Nebraska plant. International Gamco removed two 40-inch presses to make room for the new KBA Rapida 105 six-color press. The firm also purchased peripheral equipment, such as an aerator jogger, to help speed paper flow into the new press. Press operators, grouped in five at a time, received KBA’s training on the new press. “The trainer said that he had never turned over a press to the press crew as quickly as he had at our company,” says Moses proudly. “He said we have a young, sharp, and very excited press team.” Superb production run During the month of December 2005, International Gamco found that the new press produced a superb production run and the company is eager to “showboat” the press to its customers. “The quality of our work has improved due to the new press,” says Moses. “It has given us the ability to turn work around faster and more efficiently than before. We’re also going to explore new markets, such as the commercial area, to grow and increase our business. This new KBA press is the linchpin to our growth in the future. Who knows? We might be looking to add a second press as well.” International Gamco, Inc. (“Gamco”) is North America’s premier manufacturer of pull-tab tickets.
