Newspaper Industry Professionals to Gather at NAA Marketing Conference

Vienna, Va. – Newspaper professionals from across the country will present winning strategies and share innovative ideas in newspaper marketing and new media during the Newspaper Association of America’s annual Marketing Conference (with Classified & CONNECTIONS). The conferences will be held Feb. 19-22 at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. The meeting will open with a general session at 4 p.m. on Feb. 19 with remarks from author Ian Morrison, an internationally known futurist specializing in long-term forecasting and planning in the changing business environment. In addition, the conferences will recognize industry accomplishments with awards presentations that include the Digital Edge Awards, or Edgies, which honor outstanding examples of the newspaper industry’s commitment to online excellence. Other awards will recognize personal and business achievements in various aspects of newspaper marketing. Marketing and Classified programming will examine what newspaper readers and advertisers look for from newspaper products and how newspapers can respond to these evolving needs. The Connections conference will offer cutting-edge online business strategies. Program highlights: Sunday, Feb. 19: “Understanding the New ABC Rules and How to Comply”: The Audit Bureau of Circulation will provide an update on recent rule changes including a unique perspective regarding the third party rule change, and associated issues. Monday, Feb. 20: “Interactive, Habit-forming Online News: Maximizing the Digital Medium”: Leading newspaper Web sites build their audience by presenting new storytelling models, engaging content and a spirit of openness that invites participation from visitors. Digital media leaders will share their secrets for maximizing the capabilities of their sites. Tuesday, Feb. 21: “How to Compete with Free: Examining the Landscape of Free Classifieds Online and in Print”: This session will explore the growth of free classified listings and its impact on newspaper classifieds. Wednesday, Feb. 22: “Consumer Trend Update – NAA to release new research to update 2000 study, ‘How America Shops and Spends’”: The principal investigators from NAA who were involved in this research will provide critical information on consumer shopping, purchasing habits and media use, and a newspaper sales manager on the front lines of retail advertising will share perspective. The 2006 update will include a larger online component as well as trend data and results from other recent reports.
