MONTREAL, Oct. 27 -- Domtar Inc. announced today the appointment of Richard Garneau to the position of Executive Vice- President, Operations, effective immediately. Reporting to Raymond Royer, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Garneau will be responsible for the papers, pulp, and wood sectors. He will also have the task to review the Corporation's operational structure and processes as well as to conduct an aggressive review of the activities so as to implement targeted cost-cutting measures company-wide before year-end. "The current business context and market changes are posing unprecedented challenges for our Corporation, as demonstrated by our third quarter financial results. This pressure will continue to be felt in terms of production and distribution costs, especially when amplified by a strong Canadian dollar," explained Raymond Royer. "I am particularly pleased to announce Richard Garneau's appointment. His broad experience of more than 30 years in the paper and forest products industry, including positions at Donohue Inc., St-Laurent Paperboard Inc., Norampac Inc. and, since 2002, as Senior Vice-President, Forest Products at Domtar, is considered an invaluable asset at a time of accelerated changes," added Raymond Royer.
