Kodak Enhances Prepress Workflow Productivity with Powerful New Software Modules
Press release from the issuing company
ROCHESTER, N.Y., September 9 – Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG) is demonstrating powerful new software modules at the Print 05 exhibition that integrate with KODAK printing workflow solutions, enabling printers to achieve greater automation and productivity. Printers can boost revenue, streamline prepress production, and cut costs with new enhancements to value-added software for PRINERGY and BRISQUE workflow management systems.
New Version! SYNAPSE UPFRONT 4.0 Job Planning Software
SYNAPSE UPFRONT software is an intelligent job planning solution that can increase efficiency and decrease costly planning errors. It replaces the old method of manually folding paper and drawing layouts to create a job plan, and captures decades of planning experience in an easy-to-use, powerful tool.
Version 4.0 of SYNAPSE UPFRONT job planning software adds significant developments, including: marks enhancements, such as the ability to place a mark relative to pages or gutters and single point mark access from a new marks palette; the ability to zoom-in to Press Layout and Layout Plan; improved user interface; common settings for Job Builder and Planner; the ability to export diagrams to PDF files at a predefined location, and to attach an existing PREPS imposition software signature to a press layout. SYNAPSE UPFRONT 4.0 software will be available worldwide in early 2006.
New Version! SYNAPSE Link 2.1 Software
SYNAPSE Link software connects the PRINERGY workflow management system, (as well as the BRISQUE workflow system when operated with the additional Director workflow system) with Management Information System (MIS) systems. It offers standalone reporting capabilities where there is no MIS, or the MIS is not qualified with SYNAPSE Link software. The reports it generates provide information on prepress activity, material usage, job status, machine utilization and alteration activity. By analyzing these reports using standard business analysis tools, printers can understand their businesses better, track and reduce costs, and improve profitability.
SYNAPSE Link 2.1 software offers new standalone reports based on additional page detail and signature status that allow printers with MIS systems that are not qualified with SYNAPSE Link software to extract even more information from their prepress workflows. With improved visibility into prepress, businesses can enhance their ability to accurately capture all revenue opportunities. The new standalone reports include:
- Surfaces Ready for Platemaking Report provides the status of all surfaces that are in the system, but have not yet been plated. This report aids scheduling and provides quick answers to questions, such as, “is this job ready to be plated?” Timely feedback on missing pages or pages awaiting approval will help ensure faster turnaround and a higher percentage of on-time jobs.
- Job Page Summary Report lists the number of pages processed for each job, which provides an easy way to assess total pages processed and proofed, and facilitates billing based on those parameters.
- Job Layout Summary Report summarizes the page delivery and approval status for a given job. Scheduling is facilitated by knowing what pages are on a signature and the approval status for each page.
- Layout Output by Job Report shows which plates have been output for a given job. Understanding which surfaces are proofed or plated further aids in job scheduling.
- Separations Output by Operator Report lists the separations output by each operator over a given time period. Tracking which separations have been plated indicates when signatures can go on press.
This new release of SYNAPSE Link software also supports JDF Stripping Params (JDF files that describe imposition information). When the MIS passes the JDF Stripping Params to SYNAPSE Link software, the job and imposition are automatically created in the PRINERGY 3.0 workflow management system with the PRINERGY Automated Imposition option. SYNAPSE Link 2.1 software is now available.
New Version! PROFILE WIZARD Mio 3.1 Color Management Software
PROFILE WIZARD Mio software generates intelligent ICC profiles that maintain color integrity of input devices, monitors, and output devices as the data passes between them. The new version, 3.1, significantly improves the quality of monitor and output profile creation with editingTools for MACINTOSH OS X with superior ICC profile editing features for tailoring colors and to support 6-color profile creation.
PROFILE WIZARD Mio 3.1 software also includes optimized profiles for XEROX DOCUCOLOR digital color presses to support printers using unified workflows for digital as well as offset printing. This new version will be available worldwide in October 2005.
New Version! PROFILE WIZARD Digi 2.0 Color Management Software
PROFILE WIZARD Digi 2.0 color management software is designed specifically for the digital printer for easy-to-use automated ICC profile creation. Version 2.0 of PROFILE WIZARD Digi software now supports the XEROX DOCUCOLOR 250 printer/copier, and the GRETAGMACBETH Eye-One Pro spectrophotometer. It will be available worldwide in November 2005.
New Version! PANDORA 2.8 Step-and-Repeat Tool
PANDORA software is the step-and-repeat tool designed to create packaging layouts efficiently. It is built on open industry standards such as PDF and JDF, enabling seamless integration with a variety of workflow systems. This intuitive, flexible tool makes it easy to take completed designs from 1-up to multi-up layouts quickly and easily.
PANDORA 2.8 software allows operators to define their own marks and edit the content of these marks within the software environment, eliminating the need to launch another desktop application. PANDORA software now dynamically renders the mark's size, color and overprint characteristics. Version 2.8 also introduces a number of other features, including: JDF for the PRINERGY Evo PDF processor, PDF 1.5 Support, Ruler Tool, and enhanced integration with the PRINERGY workflow management system. It will be released worldwide next month.
