RR Donnelley Applauds U.S. House of Representatives Passage of Postal Reform

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, July 27 -- RR Donnelley & Sons Company applauds the House leadership for its passage last night of postal reform legislation, HR22. The bill passed with an overwhelming majority 410-20. "Last night's vote was an important step toward ensuring that we have a healthy, viable and affordable postal service that is designed to last well into the 21st Century," said RR Donnelley CEO Mark Angelson. "We are particularly grateful for the steadfast leadership of Chairman Tom Davis, Congressman Henry Waxman, Congressman John McHugh and Congressman Danny K. Davis." Mr. Angelson continued, "We are pleased to see language in the bill that encourages worksharing as well as language that would tie future rate increases to the rate of inflation. Affordable, stable and predictable rates are essential to the USPS's and our customers' success. Comprehensive reform as outlined in HR22 should enable the USPS to cover the costs of universal service and achieve financial stability without unacceptable rate increases." Mr. Angelson concluded, "The United States Postal Service and the mailing industry that supports it are an essential part of the U.S. economy, accounting for nearly 9% of GDP. It is essential that we maintain this momentum when the Senate reconvenes in September."
