June 6, 2005 -- Recognizing our innovative methods to improve air quality, the Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air (WPCA) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have presented Quad/Graphics with a 2004 Clean Air Recognition Award. The award was one of three issued to Wisconsin companies that are making a positive impact on the environment through improved air quality. Awards were presented at the "Clean Air Extravaganza," an event co-hosted by the WPCA and DNR on May 19 at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee.
"Today we recognize those organizations and individuals that have made exemplary efforts to protect air," said DNR Secretary P. Scott Hassett. "The actions organizations take today ensure a high standard of environmental quality and good health in Wisconsin, as well as a strong, stable future for our economy."
Clean air recognition awards are designed specifically to showcase and praise those companies that are willing and have invested in voluntary actions to improve air quality, according to Jessica Lawent, Air Management Specialist at the DNR. "Rather than waiting for regulations and requirements to be placed upon them, these companies are going beyond the call of duty to work for clean air and improve the health of the public," she said.
Quad’s energy-saving initiatives that were highlighted at the event include: energy conservation and emissions reductions generated by lighting retrofits at all of our Quad plants; waste ink reduction and the reuse of ink emissions as a fuel source; the education of employees and clients about air quality; and emissions reductions in our distribution fleet.
The Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air program is an alliance of 260 businesses, schools, community organizations and government agencies, all committed to improving the quality of air through voluntary actions. Quad/Graphics has been a member of the WPCA since 1996, the year the organization was founded.
In addition to Quad/Graphics, the WPCA and DNR also recognized WPCA members Northwestern Mutual and the Madison (Wis.) Metropolitan School District on their clean air initiatives, presenting each with a Recognition Award.
