May 9, 2005 -- Lexington , KY. -- In a free Webinar hosted by WhatTheyThink.com, the printing industry’s leading source of news and information, WhatTheyThink Senior Editor Cary Sherburne conducted an educational briefing on key issues to consider when selecting a Print MIS solution. Sherburne was joined by Ted Hagler, Director of Manufacturing & QA for Papa John’s International, a long-time print MIS user and advocate, who shared his real-world results and best practices relative to Print MIS. Nearly 350 senior printing executives from around the world registered for this event, which was sponsored by EFI. The audio of the Webinar and PDF of the presentation are available online:

“In today’s fast-paced and highly competitive world of business communications,” said Sherburne, “printers must seek ways to make their operations more efficient in order to keep costs in line. Print MIS solutions are the methodology that allows accurate, real-time data collection and reporting—and represent the only way printers can hope to stay ahead of the curve from a business management perspective.”
Papa John’s Hagler was selected as co-presenter in this important industry event due to the unique nature of his business—an in-plant print shop which also functions as a commercial print operation, with 35% of revenues attributable to work brought in from the outside. Hagler discussed how his company uses data collected by his Print MIS solution to continuously improve the operation. He says, “The real competitive edge in print manufacturing is not just the newest press. It is the process. The better and more cost effective your process is, the better you will be able to grow—profitably.” Hagler asserted that a business management system needs to be the number one investment for any printing operation. He adds, “If you don’t know what your numbers are, you don’t know how to get where you need to be. When we get to the end of the month on a P&L, we are not guessing whether or not we made money. We know.”
As part of the program, EFI, the sponsor of the event, invited attendees to download the newest in its educational ABC’s series, the ABC’s of Print MIS, which was available for the first time as part of this program. This publication is now available for general downloading at www.efi.com.
