Quad/Graphics Utilizes McDATA Business Continuance Solution to Enable 24/7 Uptime
Press release from the issuing company
BROOMFIELD, Colo.--June 13, 2005-- In order to increase the availability of its storage network to meet business continuance objectives, Quad/Graphics, a billion-dollar printing company in Sussex, Wisconsin, implemented Intrepid(R) 6140 Directors from McDATA Corporation, a leading provider of storage networking solutions. With the directors, Quad/Graphics consolidated its network, improved availability and uptime, and provided centralized SAN management via McDATA SANavigator(R) software. With McDATA's business continuance solution, Quad/Graphics can globally deliver printing, media, management, finishing and distribution services 24/7. Since this implementation, Quad/Graphics purchased two additional Intrepid 6140 directors for a separate BC/DR project integrating FICON into their open systems SAN.
"Quad/Graphics needed higher availability for its printing business applications. Any outage to the SAN, which hosts our major applications, would be very disruptive to business operations. We wanted to deploy a solution that would meet our business continuance objectives. By replacing our mesh fabric with a consolidated and highly available SAN from McDATA, we don't have to worry about internal IT issues impacting external business output. We were also able to centralize network management with SANavigator," said Don Whitlow, manager of enterprise computing, Quad/Graphics.
Quad/Graphics reduced the complexity of its environment significantly, transforming upgrade and zoning issues into a simpler process. The company uses SANavigator's monitoring capabilities to identify, and act upon, any hot spots. Whitlow specifically likes the SANavigator feature that enables him to set port utilization traps to trigger the sending of an e-mail alert. The McDATA business continuance solution allows the company's network to perform at the highest level.
"Customers want a solution that fulfills immediate needs, automates processes and enables future scalability. With McDATA solutions, customers can reduce network complexity, ensure reliability and remain confident that their investment will provide measurable returns and future value," said Wayne Morris, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, McDATA.
