Man Roland Awards Two Scholarships To NAPL & PIA/GATF Management & Leadership Institute

Press release from the issuing company

PARAMUS, N.J., MARCH 21, 2005 – As part of its ongoing commitment to furthering education in the graphic communications industry, MAN Roland has awarded the following scholarships to the upcoming NAPL and PIA/GATF Management & Leadership Institute: • Garland P. Lipscomb, production supervisor, Stafford Printing, Stafford, Va., was awarded the MAN Roland Larry B. Perkins Scholarship and will participate in the program’s Graphic Communications Management course. • Scott Vaughan, prepress manager of Kase Printing, Hudson, N.H., has earned the MAN Roland Harry V. Quadracci Scholarship to the Institute’s Production Management course. In announcing the winners, Christian Cerfontaine, director of Marketing of MAN Roland Inc., said, “Garland and Scott are the kind of energetic, innovative thinkers that will help drive the graphic communications industry forward. The enthusiasm and love of learning they bring to MLI is sure to inspire their fellow participants. MAN Roland is extremely pleased to award them these scholarships.” In his application, Lipscomb, a 21-year industry veteran, noted that “when the owner of Stafford Printing, Howard Owen, asked if I was interested in attending the Management and Leadership Institute, I immediately said yes. Although a small company, Stafford Printing has always been interested in new technology and we were one of the first companies in our area to install computer-to-plate. Two years ago we added a press with computer-integrated management. “While my hands-on experience has been ample, I know I need classroom experiences to continue to grow. By attending the Institute I believe I will develop my leadership skills, become a better manager, and gain new ideas to share with co-workers.” In his scholarship application, Vaughan credited his successful 13-year tenure in the printing industry to an ability to “quickly learn on the job, learning through experience, both good and bad. What I have been lacking is some sort of formal education that might help me get to the next level. My goal is to continue to improve my professional position within the industry. After reading the MLI brochure and knowing the reputations of the associations connected with the Institute, I believe this experience would help me greatly.” Competition for the MAN Roland scholarships, which provide full tuition for the Management & Leadership Institute ($1,995 for NAPL and PIA/GATF members) and a $500 accommodations stipend, was open to employees of member companies of NAPL and PIA/GATF. This year’s Institute marks the second consecutive year that the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) and the Printing Industries of America (PIA) / Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) will offer their well-respected leadership and management development programs concurrently.
