EFI Adds PrintMessenger PDF Generating Drivers to PrintSmith Site Job Submission and E-Commerce Module

Press release from the issuing company

Foster City, Calif. – Feb. 2, 2005 – EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, has added an important product feature that makes submitting PDF’s easier and faster for users of EFI PrintSmith Site?, the job submission and e-commerce add-on module to PrintSmith?. PrintSmith is a comprehensive, flexible and feature rich print management information system and the market leading solution for print and copy shops; PrintSmith Site enables printers to offer online products and services with complete integration into the PrintSmith system for faster job turnaround and a more streamlined workflow. The new PrintSmith Site release, shipping now, incorporates EFI’s PrintMessenger PDF generating print drivers, which make it easier for customers to submit jobs to print shops over the Internet, and also dramatically improve the quality of jobs coming into the shop – decreasing labor and improving customer service. The unlimited client-license PrintMessenger drivers have been enjoyed by users of other EFI Internet solutions, like Digital StoreFront and PrinterSite Exchange, since mid-2004. "The latest version of PrintSmith Site is focused on making the file submission process painless and fast for both customers and the print shop," said Chuck Gehman, director of product marketing at EFI. “With the EFI PrintMessenger drivers incorporated into PrintSmith Site, PrintSmith users can now enjoy the benefits of PDF job submission that only larger companies have been able to afford.” Digital Color Graphics, a commercial printer near Philadelphia, has been a PrintSmith user for more than 7 years. “The enhanced PrintSmith Site will be welcomed by our customers, who appreciate the ability to quickly submit jobs to us any time of the day or night,” said Jim Rosenthal, vice president and chief operating officer. The integration of PrintSmith Site and the EFI PrintMessenger drivers provide the following features and benefits: •The EFI PrintMessenger PDF generating drivers let the print shop’s customers automatically create settings-correct PDF files right from their own desktop applications, like Microsoft PowerPoint, Publisher or QuarkXpress. These drivers overcome the big issues usually associated with native file submission, including missing fonts and graphics. •PrintMessenger creates a “virtual printer” on the customer’s PC or Macintosh computer. The print shop’s name then appears in the list of output devices just like any other printer – customers simply choose the print shop name as easily as they would select their own desktop inkjet or laser printer. •From within their favorite applications, the print shop customer simply chooses “File-Print-PrintShop Name.” The PrintMessenger automatically generates a PDF, with appropriate “settings” for commercial printing, and sends it directly to the print shop over the Internet. •A print ready PDF file arrives at the print shop, where it can seamlessly flow into workflow applications, RIPs or directly to output devices.
