Major seven press multi-site Goss Community order for Caxton Group, South Africa

January 26th 2005 – Goss International has taken an order from Caxton & CTP Publishers and Printers Limited, for seven Goss Community presses for its Caxton Newspapers Division to be delivered in 2005. The investment will provide state-of-the-art single-width newspaper press capability across its portfolio of newspaper sites in South Africa.
Terry Moolman, CEO at Caxton Group comments, “The new Goss Community presses will be added one per month from the end of April 2005 to seven of our sites across South Africa and will provide us with full color capability to satisfy the color demand for our regional weekly newspapers produced in 16 and 24-page tabloid sections.”
Two different press configurations will be delivered to CTP Limited. Four presses will be configured as two four-high 16-cylinder Goss Community towers and one Goss Community folder. The three remaining and larger presses will be configured as three 16-cylinder Goss Community four-high towers with two Goss Community folders. Both will have a cut-off of 578mm with a press speed of 35,000cph.
Moolman continues, “Flexibility and increased productivity were our main requirements for upgrading our current press lines. Our readers and advertisers are both looking for additional color and this latest investment will provide exactly what they are looking for while improving our overall production capability. As an existing long-term Goss user we have a good relationship with Goss and know that the technology they sell and the service they offer are second to none.”
Caxton & CTP Publishers and Printers is recognised as one of the leading publishers of books, magazines and newspapers in South Africa and employs over 1500 staff in the newspaper division in 50 offices across the country. As well as numerous customer owned titles, 87 free and paid for weeklies and 1 daily, Caxton owned or co-owned titles are printed at 9 press sites including daily’s The Citizen, Sowetan and Financial Times and weeklies Sunday World and International Express.
