Heidelberg Installs Speedmaster CD 102 Press At Chicago High-End Commercial Printer

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., December 10, 2004 – Print media industry leader Heidelberg recently installed an 8-color Speedmaster CD 102 press with coater and extended delivery at Quantum Color Graphics, LLC, a high-end commercial print shop located in Chicago. The new press replaces a 6-color Speedmaster CD 102 that was purchased in 1994. Bill White, Quantum Color Graphic’s chief executive officer, recently purchased the 8-color press in an effort to differentiate the shop from its competitors and expand its existing capabilities. “When we bought the press, we were looking for a piece of equipment that was new and different,” said White. “There is no press that compares to our new Heidelberg’s CD 102 in the Chicago marketplace. So now we’re able to take on additional capacity, add more shifts and focus on quality and service.” Offering printers a high degree of automation and cost-effectiveness, the new Speedmaster CD 102 drupa 2004 generation has been fully redesigned and now includes a number of ergonomic refinements, including a new feeder and delivery, and an advanced coating unit. As an example, all Speedmaster 102 models – including the CD 102 – offers time-saving features such as the new Preset Plus feeder, the ability to control all peripheral devices using the touch screen of the Prinect CP2000 Center and extremely fast wash-up and makeready. In the case of Quantum Color Graphics, these new features have made high-quality production easier, making it possible for the shop to significantly increase its number of UV-printed jobs. “The stability and fast setup of Heidelberg’s ‘Plus’ feeder and delivery, now available with the Speedmaster CD 102 allow printers to concentrate more closely on the quality of the printed result,” said John Dowey, Heidelberg VP Product Management/Sheetfed. “In addition, performance has been elevated by up to 15% due to the totally redesigned feeder, delivery and dryers. This lets our customers accommodate the need for higher running speeds as well as the demand more glossy or specialized coatings.” Currently, Quantum Color Graphics is using the new press to produce general commercial work on materials that range from paper and plastic to vinyl and foil. With its first long press, the shop has penetrated additional markets and led its existing customer base into new areas of print production. “So far, we’ve seen incredible results,” said White. “We’ve always loved our Heidelbergs, but in terms of fast startup, high net output, and top quality, our new CD 102 sets an entirely new benchmark. Most importantly, our customers have been very impressed by the high-end jobs that have come off of the new press.” Established in 1992, Quantum Color Graphics is a high-end general commercial print facility that is privately-owned and operated. The all-Heidelberg shop has a substantial customer base that spans the country and includes ad agencies, graphic design firms and Fortune 500 companies. Quantum Color Graphics has been a loyal Heidelberg customer since its inception 12 years ago.
