Goss Gains Another Major Order From Freedom Newspapers Inc.

Press release from the issuing company

Freedom Communications, Inc.’s Florida division has recently ordered a Goss Universal 45 press to be installed at its Panama City, Florida plant to print its main newspaper The News Herald. This order was placed following the success of the Goss Universal press that was purchased and installed in 2003 at its sister newspaper, The Monitor based in McAllen, Texas. Karen Hanes, Vice President of Freedom Florida Newspapers explains, " The Goss Universal press at The Monitor is proving to be a great success. The new press has enabled them to significantly increase the color and quality of their newspaper, they can print up to 24 full-color pages in each Universal press run. We needed to replace our existing system and seeing as the Universal press had already been tried and tested at our sister company, it was the obvious choice of press for us." The new 28-unit Goss Universal press for Panama City has been purchased to replace its thirty year-old Goss Cosmo press and will be configured as six four-high towers and two two-high towers. The order also includes ten reelstands and two 1:3:3 folders, which include both two and four-high formers to give maximum flexibility to the press in enabling the News Herald to have different page counts per section. The News Herald will use its Goss Universal press to deliver additional color to its newspaper. The press will be printing four sections with up to 40 pages, at 45,000 copies per hour. This press has the ability to print 24 of the pages in full color. The News Herald commercial printing facility is one of the largest in Northwest Florida, currently running two web offset presses. The new 28-unit Goss Universal will take their place. The company will now have the ability to meet virtually any publishing requirements from smaller, low pagination publications and inserts to larger directories. Its customer base ranges across Florida with a concentration in the Bay County. "The Universal 45 press chosen by The News Herald is tailored to their production needs and includes many outstanding features for low waste, high print quality and high productivity," said Tom Reardon, Regional Sales Manager of Goss International. Karen Hanes, concludes, "I have confidence that the new press will be able to give the flexibility and quality that we need for our readers and advertisers. Every thirty years a press is purchased, so it has to be right. I believe the proven Universal technology will make customers and associates very happy!"
