RR Donnelley Receives Forest Stewardship Council Certification
Press release from the issuing company
CHICAGO, Nov. 16 -- R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company today announced that it has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) "Multi-site Chain-of-Custody" certification for all of RR Donnelley's U.S. magazine, catalog, retail insert and directory printing plants. This certification expands upon the FSC "Chain-of-Custody" certification that two RR Donnelley facilities received earlier this year.
"RR Donnelley has achieved chain-of-custody certification on a scale that no other printer has achieved," said John Paloian, President, RR Donnelley Group Publishing and Retail Services. "We sought and received this certification because it is important to our customers and because it is consistent with RR Donnelley's long-standing commitment to the environment. Overall, we will continue to work with suppliers and customers that support environmentally friendly forest management practices and policies advocated by the FSC and other accredited forest management certification bodies."
With the Multi-site Chain-of-Custody certification, RR Donnelley customers will now be able to use the FSC-trademarked "checkmark and tree" logo on printed materials as a means to demonstrate their commitment to the environment when they use FSC-certified paper in printed materials produced by RR Donnelley at any of the company's Publishing and Retail Services facilities. The expanded certification was provided by Scientific Certification Systems, an independent, third party evaluation and certification service that also provided the previous certification.
Paloian added that RR Donnelley's manufacturing expertise played a significant role in being able to rapidly achieve certification on such a broad scale. "Consistency in supply chain management is one of RR Donnelley's strengths," said Paloian. "Our paper tracking processes enabled us to meet chain-of-custody certification requirements simultaneously across multiple locations. We will continue to use our manufacturing expertise to work with customers to achieve increased efficiency and to protect and improve the environment." FSC multi-site certification requires that operations covered by the certification produce or handle materials using consistent, documented methods and procedures.
