October 12, 2004 -- Rochester Institute of Technology's internationally recognized School of Print Media will be home to a gravure research library, an invaluable resource for students and faculty studying about gravure-related technologies. To support the research initiative, Gravure Association of America (GAA) and Gravure Education Foundation (GEF) have donated their library collections to RIT. The official opening of the research library will be a highlight of the 2005 RIT Gravure Day, April 5. Among the library collections are proceedings from Gravure Research Institute (GRI), Gravure Technical Association (GTA), Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA), and Technical Association of Paper and Pulp Industries. The 1918 edition of the New York Times Sunday supplement, printed by rotogravure, is also in the collection. "The research library represents a body of important knowledge pertaining to gravure technology and its development," explains Robert Chung, Gravure Research Professor at RIT's School of Print Media. "The presence of the library differentiates and further enhances RIT as a preeminent institution in print media education." And GEF is excited about the placement of the gravure library collection at RIT. "It is our hope that students will take advantage of these new resources and use them as a starting point for their in-depth gravure research projects," says Laura Wayland-Smith Hatch, executive director of Gravure Education Foundation. "We also hope that the gravure industry will use the new Gravure Research library, visit the campus, and learn more about the research opportunities RIT has to offer as a GEF Gravure Resource Center."
